You know what struck me first about the Velvet Inn? The name actually makes sense once you’re inside – there’s this soft, almost plush quality to everything that feels deliberately cozy without being stuffy. I mean, we’re talking about a spot tucked into Via Vittoria Colonna in Prati, which honestly is one of those Roman neighborhoods that doesn’t scream tourist trap but puts you right where you need to be.

The location is pretty clever, actually. You’re about a ten-minute walk from the Vatican (and I mean a real ten minutes, not that optimistic hotel math), but more importantly, you’re in the heart of Prati where Romans actually live and eat. There’s this fantastic morning routine you can fall into – grab coffee at the bar downstairs (they do a proper cornetto, none of that hotel continental breakfast sadness), then wander down to Via Cola di Rienzo for some people-watching before the crowds hit St. Peter’s. The metro stop at Lepanto is literally around the corner, which saves you from those brutal summer walks when Rome turns into a furnace.

What really gets me about this place is how they’ve nailed that balance between feeling boutique-y and actually functional. The rooms have character – real hardwood floors that creak just enough to feel authentic, windows that open wide (thank god, because Roman summers are no joke), and beds that are actually comfortable instead of just looking Instagram-ready. The bathrooms are compact but smartly designed, with decent water pressure and those little touches that show someone was thinking about real travelers – hooks where you need them, mirror placement that doesn’t require contortionist skills. I stayed during August when the neighborhood gets pretty quiet (lots of locals flee to the coast), and honestly, the evening walks through those tree-lined streets felt like having a secret Rome all to yourself. The staff genuinely knows the area too – not just the obvious tourist spots, but where to find good gelato at 11 PM or which trattoria actually serves locals instead of tour groups. That 9.1 rating isn’t just politeness; it’s the kind of place where small details work together. The check-in was smooth, the WiFi actually worked throughout the building, and – this matters more than you’d think – the street is quiet enough for real sleep but lively enough that you don’t feel isolated. It’s Rome, so you’ll still hear the occasional Vespa or animated conversation drifting up, but it’s the good kind of city sounds that remind you where you are without keeping you awake.

  The location is 100 out of 10., in the center, but hidden from the crowd of tourists. In 1 minute there is the best pizzeria in the city. And also in 1 minute there is a French restaurant where you can have breakfast with real French pastries. If you leave the hotel and go left, and then straight, you can get to a very cool area of ​​​​Rome, where there are no tourists at all, only Italians, villas with green gardens and birds singing. Very nice staff. Easy check-in and check-out. Very cozy! Very clean. Gorgeous area. I would like to add a sign on the street with the name, for ease of check-in, but otherwise everything is super

  Room was comfortable and it is very close to everything – there’s also a bus stop in front of the hotel that is well connected with further parts of the city.
  
  What could be improved: Wifi did not reach our specific room. We communicated this on the first night but it was only fixed on the fourth night (our last one)- the room does not have very good mobile service either so we would have to get out of the room to talk on the phone – definitely inconvenient. However, Staff were kind and helpful with the process.

  The rooms are in an amazing location- central Prati and just a short hop over the bridge to the center of the center of Rome. The rooms are very new and extremely clean and we were very comfortable. The staff extremely helpful before arrival and check-in extremely easy.
  
  What could be improved: noise travels easily from the corridor into the room which was a bit bothersome at night, but ok as it was just the sound of people coming and going. We had a hard time reaching staff by phone to help us with a problem in our room which we created, but once we did get someone on the phone they quickly came to help. A trade-off for privacy of not having a hotel reception open on-site.

  The hotel’s location is amazing, the rooms were clean and lovely, and we had no issues with noise at all. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The only small thing is that they don’t provide special slippers, but everything else was just perfect. I’ll definitely stay here again next time I come. Thank you so much for everything!

  This place is a gem! The bedrooms are brand new, spotless and beautifully designed. Location is excellent, close to everything yet not in the touristic area. What makes it even better was the lovely staff. Elisabetta is so warm and helpful and really goes out of her way to help guests with everything.
