Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be straight with you about Vatican rooms metro ottaviano – it’s one of those places that grows on you once you figure out what you’re getting. The name pretty much tells you everything: it’s literally right by the Ottaviano metro stop, which means you’re about a 10-minute walk from St. Peter’s Basilica. I mean, you can actually see the dome from some of the upper floor windows if you crane your neck just right.
The thing about this area – Trionfale – is that it’s where actual Romans live and work, not just tourists taking selfies. Via Tolemaide is this quiet residential street with those typical Roman apartment buildings, the kind with green shutters and little balconies where people hang their laundry. You’ll hear the morning routine of Italian families getting ready for work, which honestly becomes kind of charming background noise after a day or two. There’s a fantastic local market just a few streets over where vendors are setting up by 7 AM, and the smell of fresh bread from the panetteria down the block will probably wake you up before your alarm does.
What I really appreciated about staying here was how easy it made everything without feeling touristy. The Ottaviano-San Pietro metro station is literally a two-minute walk – I timed it because I’m neurotic about catching trains. From there, you’re connected to the entire city. Want to hit the Spanish Steps? Fifteen minutes on the A line. Colosseum? Switch to the B line at Termini, no big deal. But here’s what the guidebooks don’t tell you: this neighborhood has some incredible restaurants that tourists never find. There’s this little trattoria called Il Sorpasso about three blocks away where the carbonara is legitimately life-changing, and the owner’s dog just wanders around being friendly to everyone.
The rooms themselves are pretty standard 3-star fare – clean, functional, decent WiFi that actually works. Nothing fancy, but you know what? The beds are comfortable and the shower has good water pressure, which is honestly all I really need after walking 20,000 steps around Rome. The staff speaks solid English and they’re genuinely helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations. One guy at the front desk drew me a little map showing the best route to avoid the crowds when walking to the Vatican – saved me probably an hour of standing in tourist clusters.
I should mention that if you’re expecting luxury amenities, this isn’t that kind of place. It’s more like staying in a well-maintained apartment building where someone happens to rent out rooms. But that’s actually part of its charm. You feel like you’re experiencing Rome the way locals do, not trapped in some sterile hotel bubble. The 7.8 rating makes perfect sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it gets all the important stuff right and the location is absolutely unbeatable if you want to see the Vatican without the hassle of commuting across the city every day.

Good – Dorota from Ireland – 18 February 2024 (7/10)
Perfect location for short-stay. This apartment building is within a 5-minute walk of the Vatican Museum. Small room comes with an ensuite bathroom, making it ideal for two people. It is clean and tidy. There is a lovely bakery shop just a few meters away, where you can find delicious buns for a quick breakfast 😉
What could be improved: There was just the fridge as the kettle and coffee maker were removed the day after our arrival. After a long day of walking and visiting, we had been looking forward to a cup of warm tea before bedtime. However, we were disappointed to find that the kettle and coffee machine were gone. When I asked about it, my question was ignored, which left a bad impression on me.Friendly staff, neat environment and prompt services – Akingbesote from Nigeria – 28 December 2023 (7/10)
I wish the made complimentary breakfast as part of the package at that price.
What could be improved: 1. There suppose to be refund if second was not around, promised of second bed was not done when the second guest arrived
2. Check in and out procedures was too rigid, make it flexible, though hurts were waiting. Allow checking out guests to keep their luggage pending the actual time of departure at no costVery good – Michael from United States – 26 February 2024 (8/10)
Quiet & secure
We loved it!! The restaurant across the street was a great compliment to our stay! La Conda – Diehl from United States – 31 March 2025 (10/10)
Everything was great! The only concern would be the shared common area.. it would be excellent for 3 couples.
Exceptional – Leonidas from Greece – 6 February 2025 (10/10)
Very safe and convenient location close to Ottaviano metro station, bus stop and Vatican city..Room was spacious and clean, staff polite and helpful.
Good enough for the money, but it could use some minor improvements. – Lucas from Brazil – 27 January 2024 (10/10)
It's very simple but more than enough for any traveler who knows how to get around. They made the bed every day and instructions were straight forward. Location is perfect, the street is very quiet and so close to the Vatican.
What could be improved: I wish there were less keys to get into the place. Having to juggle between 4 keys to get in is a mess. The floor is really really cold and the room didn't have any carpets.Exceptional – Kinga from Ireland – 22 January 2024 (10/10)
Thank you very much.Place is great, very clean, close to Vatican, walk only 10min, 5 min to great family restaurant,,Hostaria Dino &Tony,,For 100%we back here again.
What could be improved: I like everythingPleasant – Linnea from Australia – 15 September 2024 (6/10)
What could be improved: Mouldy shower
Good location, wish we could not have had cleaning – Elizabeth from Australia – 7 June 2024 (5/10)
Really good location, close to tourist attractions and restaurants while still feeling safe. There was a laundromat down the road which was handy. We were able to either walk or catch the train to everywhere we wanted to get to which was great.
What could be improved: We saw a cockroach on the bed on the first day. Second day the owner said we needed to be home to open the door to do a maintenance spray- we had a tour booked and couldn’t so they just said they’d come in themselves. The next day they complained there were clothes on the floor and open suitcases but there was not where to put them. We weren’t given the option to not have cleaning so they just let themselves into our room everyday while we were out.Passable – Zakharova from Norway – 14 April 2024 (5/10)
Good location, room cleaning every day, conditioner
What could be improved: Incredibly noisy, construction work every morning from 6-7am, no sound proofing between rooms. Not enough toiletries (4 small bags of shower gel for 2 people for 7 days stay). Not possible to regulate water temperature, it was either boiling hot or cold
