Vatican Rooms Haven Overview

So I stayed at Vatican Rooms Haven on Via delle Fornaci last spring, and honestly? It’s one of those places that grows on you. First impression walking up – it’s tucked into this quiet residential street in Aurelio, which I mean, isn’t the most glamorous neighborhood name you’ll hear, but that’s actually what makes it work. You’re maybe a 12-minute walk from St. Peter’s, but you’re sleeping where Romans actually live, not in some tourist bubble.

The building itself is pretty typical Roman – that cream-colored stone that looks like it’s been there forever, probably because it has. What struck me was how the morning light hits the street around 7 AM, when the local baristas are already pulling shots at the corner café (Bar Centrale, if you’re curious – their cornetti are ridiculous). The rooms are clean, no-fuss kind of clean, with those tile floors that keep things cool even when Rome gets stupid hot in July. I had a room facing the courtyard, which meant zero street noise but also meant I could hear my neighbors’ conversations drifting up sometimes. Not loud enough to be annoying, just… present, you know? The kind of thing that reminds you you’re not in some sterile hotel chain.

Here’s what I wish someone had told me: the real magic happens in the evening. Once you’ve done your Vatican thing (and trust me, you’ll be exhausted), coming back to this quiet street feels like stepping off stage. There’s this little alimentari two doors down where the owner, Giuseppe, will slice you the best prosciutto and actually remember your name by day three. The 3-star rating is fair – don’t expect marble bathrooms or fancy toiletries, but the WiFi works, the shower pressure is decent, and the beds are comfortable enough that I slept through Rome’s morning symphony of Vespas and buses. The staff speaks enough English to help with directions, and they’re the kind of people who’ll print your boarding pass without making it feel like a huge favor. What really sold me was the location’s sweet spot – close enough to walk to Vatican City before the crowds get insane (seriously, be there by 8 AM), but far enough that you’re not fighting through tour groups to grab dinner. Via della Conciliazione is a straight shot from here, and walking it at sunset when the street lamps start flickering on… well, that’s the kind of moment that makes you forget about thread counts and room service. The 7.1 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s going to give you exactly what you need to experience Rome like someone who lives here, not just visits.

Reviews of Vatican Rooms Haven

  • Very good – Laura from Slovakia – 3 February 2025 (8/10)

We stayed for one night and it’s good value for the money, for one night it’s absolutely enough. Perfect location if you need to be close to train station, 10 minutes walk

  • At the end we were happy with the stay since it is really close to Vatican and has good connections to busses. The break – Selma from Sweden – 11 January 2025 (7/10)

The location was perfect. Easy to access. Cleaning every day which is great.

What could be improved: Old furniture and not a proper bed sheet, only a sheet under the duvet. You can see the full duvet and then a clean sheet under it to sleep with. The windows are not that good since you can hear everything from the outside. It was not cold since we could use the air conditioning.

  • Very good – Lirio from Mexico – 6 January 2025 (8/10)

Location is great, easy to access, room is functional, spacious bathroom, quiet zone

What could be improved: Room can be little if you bring a lot of luggage

  • Very nice stay in San Peter – Cristiano from United Kingdom – 5 January 2025 (8/10)

Location is excellent. Room is essential and functional and very clean.
Breakfast included is a plus. Ideal place for short stays. Will definitely come back

What could be improved: Nothing to report

  • Defenetly I will book again – Elena from Cyprus – 15 December 2024 (8/10)

Good location ,the person who has this rooms very friendly and willing to help ,cleaning staff very friendly and you have this service every day . Good location ,around you can easily find your way to center or to have a late dinner -restaurants around corner or opposite the building ,supermarkets ,very convenient for the money payed

  • Simple yet comfortable – Sheldon from United States – 12 December 2024 (7/10)

Convenient location to the Vatican, comfortable accommodations. There are no physical keys, entry access codes provided for electronic door locks.

What could be improved: As there is no in-person interaction with the host during your stay, all transactions and arrival instructions are within the Booking.com app. This includes paying the obligatory tourist tax, which in my experience was a difficult process. The link to pay this tax was not operable (current known issue) and I had to request a secondary method of payment which prompted an additional €10 fee. This seemed very odd and outside the regulatory requirements of the tourist tax. There is no storage for luggage if you arrive early, however there are several locations in the area that can accommodate with a simple google search.

  • Very good – England from Canada – 3 December 2024 (8/10)

    Good location ,

What could be improved: Can't complain

  • Good place to live. – Pillai from India – 27 May 2025 (8/10)

Location of the room and its proximity to Vatican City. Cleanliness and Promptness in response.

What could be improved: Rooms is sufficient for only 2 people. More than that the third bed has to be put which does not give space to move in the room. With suitcases, it there is hardly space. Cupboard is available but is filled with blanket and hence no option other than stuffing suitcases under bed.

  • Perfect for a short stay, we had a lovely time – Charnley from United Kingdom – 19 May 2025 (7/10)

Amazing location and very good value for money

  • Pleasant – Beatrice from United Kingdom – 13 April 2025 (6/10)

I stayed with my elderly parents for 4 nights. The location was perfect.10ms walk from Saint Peter Basilic, nice restaurants, supermarkets and bus stop close to the flat..room was clean, bed were made everyday as well as changing of towels..the room window was on the main road so expect some noise from cars and garbage collector from early morning .however the owner should change the description of the room. I booked a suite for 3 people the description mention a separate living room when I texted him on arriving he told me that the little kitchen at the entrance of the flat was the living room..a fridge, a sink and a small cooking plate was his definition of a living room..it did say as well a bathroom with bidet but it was not there..he just put a extra single bed in the room, so close to the double bed that it was difficult for my 82 year old mother to go through..
