Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of Roman hotels, and Umiltà 36 is honestly one of those places that makes you feel like you’ve cracked some kind of code. It’s tucked away on this narrow street in Trevi – and I mean proper tucked away, not tourist-trap-pretending-to-be-hidden tucked away. The first time I walked down Via dell’Umiltà looking for it, I actually walked past twice because the entrance is so understated. No massive signs or doormen in ridiculous uniforms, just this elegant little doorway that whispers rather than shouts.
The thing about this place is that it gets the balance exactly right – you know what I mean? It’s got that five-star polish without feeling stuffy or like you can’t put your feet up. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully luxurious, if that makes sense. Everything’s beautifully designed, but it actually works for real people. The bathrooms are gorgeous (marble everywhere, naturally), and the beds are the kind where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re being swallowed. What really got me was the attention to details that most places miss – like proper reading lights that actually illuminate the page, and enough outlets positioned where you’d actually use them. The air conditioning is blissfully quiet too, which matters more than you’d think on those sweltering July nights.
But here’s the real kicker – the location is absolutely perfect for anyone who wants to experience Rome properly. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the Trevi Fountain, but you’re on this quiet residential street where locals actually live. I could hear normal Roman life happening outside my window – kids playing, neighbors chatting, the occasional scooter puttering by – but never any of that touristy chaos. The Pantheon is maybe seven minutes on foot, and you can easily walk to Via del Corso for shopping or duck into Trastevere for dinner. There’s this little alimentari around the corner where the owner, Giuseppe, makes the best supplì I’ve had outside of my nonna’s kitchen (okay, I don’t have an Italian grandmother, but you get the idea). The staff actually seems to know the neighborhood – they’ll point you toward the good gelato place, not the one with the tourist markup. Honestly, after a few days there, I started to feel less like a visitor and more like someone who just happened to have a really nice temporary Roman address. That’s worth something, especially in a city where it’s easy to feel completely overwhelmed by crowds and chaos.

We enjoyed everything about our stay at the Umilta 36, from the decor of the hotel, to the cleanliness of the rooms, the delightful breakfast area, the view of the balcony, and the perfect location of the hotel. But most importantly, the highlight of our stay was the super friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. Special thanks to Alessandra for making our stay even more pleasant! Will definitely be coming back to this hotel next time we’re back in Rome!
