Hotel Description
So, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the Trianon Borgo Pio, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior. It’s tucked into this quiet little piazza that most tourists completely miss, just a few blocks from the Vatican walls. But you know what? That turned out to be exactly what made it special.
The aparthotel thing actually works really well here – you get proper apartment-style setups with kitchenettes, which is clutch when you’re dealing with Rome’s notoriously late dinner schedule and want to grab some prosciutto from the market on Via Cola di Rienzo (literally a five-minute walk) for a quick lunch. The rooms feel lived-in rather than sterile, if that makes sense. Mine had this slightly worn leather chair by the window that was perfect for morning coffee while watching the neighborhood wake up. The locals start their day early here – you’ll hear the coffee machine at the bar across the piazza firing up around 6:30 AM, but it’s more charming than annoying.
What really sold me on this place was the location knowledge the staff had. The guy at reception (Marco, I think?) didn’t just point me toward the obvious tourist spots – he actually told me which entrance to use for the Vatican Museums during busy season, and mentioned that Wednesday mornings are insane because of the papal audiences. Little things like that. The street itself, Piazza delle Vaschette, is one of those hidden Roman gems where you’ve got actual Romans living their lives. There’s this tiny alimentari on the corner where the owner remembers your order after two days, and the whole area has this authentic neighborhood feel that you lose once you cross into the main tourist zone. I mean, you’re still walking distance to St. Peter’s – maybe ten minutes at a leisurely pace – but it feels like you’re staying where people actually live. The building itself has some quirks (the elevator is… well, it’s very European, let’s say), but the apartments are surprisingly spacious by Rome standards, and the air conditioning actually works, which isn’t always a given in these older buildings. One thing to note – if you’re planning to drive, forget about it. Parking around here is nearly impossible, and honestly, you don’t need a car anyway. The Metro’s close enough, and half the joy of this area is just wandering the narrow streets that connect to the river.
That 9.1 rating isn’t just inflated tourist enthusiasm – this place genuinely gets the balance right between being comfortable and feeling authentically Roman. It’s not trying to be a fancy palazzo hotel, and that’s exactly why it works.

Great location friendly helpful staff… good breakfast buffet with an AMAZING view of Rome. Specious 2 bedroom. One of the biggest one in Europe that we had.

This aparthotel is a perfect option for family travellers. Super clean, quiet and well equipped (the only minor issue was the lack of wine glasses in the kitchenette :-)…especially in Italy, this is a must :-). The staff were very nice, generous, smiling people all around. Breakfast is very varied, tasty (if you do not like the hotel machine coffee, the staff will make you a perfect freshly made Italian cappuccino, which is wonderful). The breakfast area on the terrace with a magnificent view of St Peter's Basilica, the Angel's Castle and Old Rome…this was a great experience. It's very cosy, quiet, great location, great neighbourhood. Perfect choice of restaurants right next door. The treasures of Vatican City are just a few minutes walk away. Also very close to the city centre. Highly recommended. Looking forward to returning in the future!

Close to Piazza San Pietro and Castel St'Angelo. Very good breakfast, plus you will have the great view on the 7th floor when you take your breakfast. The staff is very helpful to get an early morning taxi for us to the airport.

Our balcony was spectacular. It must be one of the best in Rome. It was also on a quiet side street, just far enough from the crowds. The breakfast was much better than I expected.

We had a lovely apartment – the bed was comfy and the shower lively and warm. I loved the coffee pods. The breakfast was plentiful and the hotel is very close to St Peters. The roof top bar/breakfast bar gives stunning views over Rome. Very friendly staff. I’d definitely stay again.
