Hotel Description

You know what? I’ve walked past the Trevi Palace Hotel probably fifty times before I actually stayed there, and honestly, I was kicking myself for not trying it sooner. It’s tucked away on Via Mazzarino in Monti – and if you don’t know Monti yet, well, you’re in for a treat because it’s basically Rome’s answer to a hip neighborhood that hasn’t completely sold its soul to tourism yet. The hotel sits in this perfectly unassuming spot where you can actually hear normal Roman life happening around you, not just the constant click of camera shutters.

The thing about this place is that it doesn’t try too hard, which I mean as the highest compliment. It’s a solid three-star that knows exactly what it is – the kind of place where the front desk guy (Paolo, I think?) actually remembers your name after day two and asks how your feet are holding up from all the walking. The rooms are clean and comfortable without being fancy, and here’s something I really appreciated – the walls are thick enough that you’re not hearing every conversation from the hallway. The air conditioning actually works, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many Roman hotels mess this up. My room faced the internal courtyard, so mornings were quiet except for the occasional delivery truck rumbling down the narrow street.

What really sold me on this place, though, is the location. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Colosseum – I timed it because I’m that person – but more importantly, you’re right in the heart of Monti where actual Romans go for dinner. There’s this little enoteca called Il Sorpasso about three blocks away that serves the kind of cacio e pepe that makes you understand why people get religious about pasta. The hotel’s also close enough to Cavour metro station that you can easily get anywhere in the city, but far enough from the main tourist drag that you can walk home at night without fighting through crowds of people taking selfies with gelato. And here’s a local tip – the small market on Via Panisperna (maybe a seven-minute walk) is where you can grab actual good coffee and a cornetto for breakfast if you want to skip the hotel’s offerings, though honestly, their breakfast isn’t bad at all. The staff genuinely seems to care about whether you’re having a good time, which sounds cheesy but makes all the difference when you’re trying to figure out how to get to Trastevere or whether that restaurant recommendation is actually worth the walk.

  • Charming stay in Rome – Stacey from United States – 30 June 2025 (10/10)

We absolutely loved this hotel. It was so charming and the staff was wonderful. Fantastic location, and we felt safe walking even late at night. Well maintained and clean room. We didn’t get to try the cafe but it looked very nice. We felt comfortable throughout our stay.

What could be improved: The only bad part was that during all of our stay we had lovely hot water. But on the last night, the hotel became more full, and we didn’t have any hot water the last 24 hours of our stay. We didn’t get to shower after being out in the hot Rome sun, because the water was just too freezing to do so.

  • Exceptional – John from United States – 15 June 2025 (10/10)

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Rome ! Staff and location is 5 stars will miss martino and his dad !

  • Exceptional – Patricia from United States – 21 May 2025 (10/10)

Staff were very pleasant, helpful with our questions and ordered taxis for us when we needed them

  • wonderful staff and wonderful location – Suzanne from Canada – 14 May 2025 (10/10)

Hotel location is great, very central and you can easily reach most of the major sites walking. The staff is exceptional, very helpful and always kind. Thank you Martino for your welcoming and all the advises. Daniella was very sweet and took the time to answer to all our questions. The room size was decent and the breakfast was good.

What could be improved: Our room was just on top of the breakfast area and the reception, it gets a bit noisy in the morning when starting the service. Other than that the room was quiet and you don't hear street noise once windows are shut.

  • Exceptional – Neil from United Kingdom – 6 May 2025 (10/10)

Location , the friendly staff and the value for money

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Great location and staff! Perfect base to explore the city & attractions – Brick from United Kingdom – 24 February 2025 (10/10)

  • Excellent hotel, clean with all amenities, great location, lovely staff… thank you x – Emma from United Kingdom – 19 February 2025 (10/10)

The staff were excellent, in advance, on arrival, and throughout our stay.
    Great location
    Lovely and clean
    Coffee and breakfast snacks available
    Would definitely stay again

What could be improved: I wasn’t sure how to turn the heating down, brief instructions near the control would have been helpful, but it wasn’t a big deal as we could open the balcony door… so I would not say Themis was a negative, just a constructive comment.

  • Very good – Megan from United States – 10 February 2025 (8/10)

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They took the time to explain where to go in Rome and suggested a few restaurants to eat at while we were there. Loved our stay in Rome!
