Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of Rome apartments, and honestly? This Trastevere penthouse on Via Garibaldi is something else entirely. The moment you walk up those stairs – and yes, there are stairs, this is a proper old Roman building – you realize you’ve stumbled onto something special. The terrace alone is worth the climb, but we’ll get to that in a minute.
What really got me is how this place sits right in the heart of Trastevere without feeling like you’re camping out in a tourist trap. Via Garibaldi is one of those streets that actually leads somewhere locals go – you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Gianicolo Hill (which, by the way, has the best sunset views in Rome and hardly any tourists know about it). The apartment itself feels like someone’s actual home, not some sterile vacation rental. I mean, the furnishings are thoughtful, the kitchen actually has proper coffee-making equipment – you know how rare that is? – and the whole space just breathes in a way that makes you want to stay longer than planned.
But honestly, that terrace is where you’ll spend most of your time. I’m talking about a proper outdoor space with enough room to spread out, not some tiny balcony where you’re bumping elbows with your travel companion. Morning coffee up there while the neighborhood wakes up below? Perfect. Evening aperitivo while the church bells chime across the rooftops? Even better. The view isn’t some postcard-perfect panorama – it’s better than that, it’s real Rome. You see the terracotta rooftops, the laundry hanging between buildings, the way the light hits the old stone at different times of day. It’s the kind of view that makes you understand why people fall in love with this city.
The location is pretty brilliant too, if you know Trastevere at all. You’re close enough to Piazza di Santa Maria to grab dinner at Da Enzo (get there early, no reservations), but far enough up the hill that you don’t hear the weekend crowds getting rowdy. Actually, the whole area gets surprisingly quiet at night – just the occasional Vespa puttering by and maybe some distant laughter from the piazzas below. Parking is typical Rome chaos, but there’s a decent chance of finding a spot on the side streets if you’re patient, and the Trastevere tram stop isn’t too far if you’re going car-free.
The only thing I’d mention – and this isn’t really a complaint – is that the building is genuinely old-school Roman, so don’t expect an elevator or perfectly soundproof walls. But that’s part of the charm, honestly. You hear the neighbors going about their lives, smell someone’s grandmother making ragù on Sunday afternoons, feel connected to the rhythm of the neighborhood in a way you never get in a hotel. With a 9.7 rating, I’m clearly not the only one who thinks this place gets it right.

The host was very helpful with meeting me at our arrival time. The apartment had a lot of stairs, but it was VERY worth it. The view was amazing, we loved the terrace and overall loved our stay. Thank you Davide!!
