Hotel Description
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from another boutique hotel near Termini Station – you know how that area can be pretty hit-or-miss with tourists rushing around everywhere. But The Liberty really surprised me in the best way possible. The moment you step inside from Via Palestro (which is actually this quiet residential street that locals use as a shortcut), you’re hit with this warm, sophisticated vibe that feels more like a stylish friend’s apartment than a typical hotel lobby. The scent is subtle but distinct – sort of a mix of leather and something floral that isn’t overwhelming like those department store lobbies.
What really got me was how the staff actually seemed to know Rome, not just the tourist basics. When I asked about getting to Trastevere for dinner, the front desk guy – I think his name was Marco – didn’t just point me toward the metro. He told me about this specific bus route that drops you right at Piazza Trilussa and runs every eight minutes until midnight. That kind of local knowledge is gold when you’re trying to avoid the crowds on the orange line during rush hour. The rooms themselves have this perfect balance of modern comfort without feeling sterile – the beds are seriously comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathrooms have rainfall showers that actually have decent water pressure, which… well, if you’ve stayed in older Roman buildings, you know that’s not always guaranteed. I mean, the WiFi worked flawlessly too, which honestly shouldn’t be noteworthy but somehow still is in some places.
The location is what really makes this place special though. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Termini, so arriving with luggage isn’t a nightmare, but you’re tucked away enough that you don’t hear the constant rumble of buses and announcement speakers. Via Palestro connects to Via Nazionale, which means you can walk to the Colosseum in about fifteen minutes if you cut through the Monti neighborhood – and trust me, that walk through the cobblestone streets is way more pleasant than taking the metro with all your camera gear. There’s also this little family-run trattoria called Da Valentino just around the corner that doesn’t have an English menu, which usually means the food is actually meant for locals. The hotel staff recommended it on my second night, and I ended up eating there twice more before I left. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the elevators are on the smaller side, so if you’re traveling with massive suitcases, you might need to make two trips – but honestly, that’s pretty standard for Roman buildings that have been converted into hotels. The whole experience just felt authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find, especially somewhere with a 9.5 rating that actually lives up to the hype.

We chose this hotel to be close to the train station. The staff were very helpful when our train was cancelled due to a one day train strike in Italy. We were able to book the hotel for another night in the same room. The room and beds were very clean and comfortable.

The staff were exceptional. Friendly, helpful, polite and welcoming. The reception team were so informative, we were on a trip for a 60th birthday and they called over to a bar we went to get a drink across the street while waiting for our room to be ready to check in and they bought us over a birthday drink. They also had a bottle of wine and cake left in room. The restaurant staff were so happy to greet us for breakfast. Some of the best customer service I have ever received.
