Hotel Description
So I stayed at Tankara Suite last spring, and honestly? It completely changed how I think about Rome accommodations. The place sits right on this quiet little piazza – Piazza di San Giovanni della Malva – that most tourists walk right past without even noticing. You know what I mean? It’s one of those spots where you can actually hear yourself think, which is saying something in Trastevere.
The suite itself is on the primo piano (that’s the first floor for us Americans), and walking up those old stone steps, you get this immediate sense that you’re staying somewhere with real history. The owner clearly knows what they’re doing – everything feels thoughtfully put together without being stuffy about it. The rooms have this perfect balance of old Roman charm and actually functional modern stuff. I mean, the WiFi worked better than my apartment back home, and the shower pressure was honestly impressive for a historic building. What really got me was the attention to small details – good lighting where you need it, enough outlets for your devices, and windows that actually open wide enough to let in those amazing Trastevere sounds (church bells, not traffic, thankfully).
Location-wise, you’re basically in the heart of authentic Rome without the tourist circus. Walk two minutes and you’re at Santa Maria in Trastevere – the real one, not some knockoff – and the morning light hitting that piazza is something else. But here’s the thing locals know: you’re also perfectly positioned for those incredible little restaurants that don’t even have signs. There’s this place around the corner where the nonna still makes pasta by hand every morning, and another spot where the wine comes from the family’s actual vineyard outside the city. You won’t find these places on TripAdvisor, but staying here puts you right in the middle of it all. The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you experience it – it’s not just about fancy amenities (though the suite has everything you need), it’s about that feeling of actually living in Rome for a few days instead of just visiting. Sure, you’ll pay a bit more than those generic hotels near Termini, but honestly, after one evening watching the sunset from your window while sipping wine and listening to the fountain in the piazza below, you’ll understand why this place books up so quickly. Just book early – seriously, especially if you’re planning to visit during shoulder season when Rome is at its absolute best.

Laura from Lithuania (10/10)
Really liked Tankara apartments. We had a two-bedroom room, it had everything we needed for a short stay. It is well cleaned, towels and hygiene products are changed as needed. The places to visit can be reached on foot. A very good place, immediately after a small square, with a very good place to eat – Osteria da Zi Umberto (it is necessary to reserve a table in advance). The host was very kind, we will be at the reception earlier and since we had a flight back, he allowed us to keep our things as long as needed. It was a great experience. I recommend!

Isabella from Australia (9/10)
Apartment located in the bohemian area of Rome surrounded by an array of restaurants, bars and the Italian atmosphere with all the required amenities – updated bathroom, comfortable beds and a coffee machine in shared kitchenette. Connected to the opposite side of the Tiber River with numerous bridges, the location is perfect to walk to Rome’s popular attractions and to explore Rome’s hidden gems. Maria & Federico were incredible hosts; always available to provide assistance, provide recommendations and advise new and interesting areas and aspects of Rome that need to be seen to be believed. Grazie mille, alla prossima volta!
