You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Take It Easy Roma Guest House on Via Padre Reginaldo Giuliani – honestly, the name made it sound like some backpacker crash pad. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked into this residential stretch of Ostiense that most tourists never see, which means you’re living more like a local than someone just passing through Rome. The building itself has that understated Roman elegance – not flashy, but solid in a way that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere with actual character rather than some cookie-cutter chain hotel.

What really won me over was how the owners (I think they’re a family operation) seem to actually care about getting the details right. The rooms are clean without being sterile, and they’ve managed to strike that perfect balance between modern comfort and Italian charm. I mean, you’ve got proper air conditioning – which, trust me, you’ll appreciate in summer – but the shutters still have that authentic Roman apartment feel. The breakfast setup is simple but thoughtful, with decent coffee that doesn’t taste like it came from a machine that’s been neglected for months. And here’s something you don’t always get in Rome: the Wi-Fi actually works consistently, which saved my sanity when I needed to sort out some work stuff.

The Ostiense location is honestly one of the best-kept secrets for staying in Rome. You’re about a fifteen-minute metro ride from the Colosseum, but your evenings are spent in a neighborhood where Romans actually live and eat. There’s this fantastic little trattoria just around the corner – I think it’s called Da Valentino – where I had some of the best cacio e pepe of my entire trip, and the owner’s kid was doing homework at the back table. Plus, you’re walking distance to Testaccio market if you want to see where locals do their shopping, and the whole area comes alive in the evenings without being touristy-loud. The guest house itself is pretty quiet – thick walls, I guess – so you can actually sleep even when the street gets a bit lively on weekends. Check-in was straightforward, though they did mention they prefer if you give them a heads up about your arrival time, which seems reasonable enough. With ratings like 8.9, you know other people are figuring out what makes this place special, so I’d probably book ahead if you’re planning to visit during busy season.

  I would especially like to note the contact with the office of this guest house. From the moment of booking I received absolutely complete information about all the important stages of check-in, arrival and stay and check-out. Very nice people work here, I recommend!   the room. was very nice and comfortable. the bathoroom was great!! it was easy to get in and we loved the shared space. it felt confortable and cosy. there is supermarket virtually under the flat and it was very easy to get to the tube only 10.minutes walk.

  Everything about this place is amazing! Each room had its own private bathroom so it still felt like you had your own privacy. It was nice to also have air conditioning in the room that we can control during the hot summer days in Rome. The whole place was well organized and clean. The location in the neighbourhood felt safe and lots of grocery shops/restaurants around. Walter was incredible as he thoroughly explained recommendations on the sights to see/best way to see them, how to use the public transportation, created a pocket guide for us to use/download, and overall was always there if we had a question. Highly recommend and will definitely rebook in the future!

  The accommodation in general was very satisfactory, especially when considering the price we paid for the four of us. We had the Blue Sky room with two two-person beds. The beds were comfortable to sleep in. The room had air conditioning and access to the balcony. There was not too much noise. Towels were provided for the stay. The bathroom was spacious and well-equipped, though the shower proved to be a little cramped to our standards (180+ cm 80kg). We arrived around 21:30 and had to self-check in. The host explained the steps to do so, and it was very innovative! Overall, it was a great and simple stay!
  
  What could be improved: The location would be a possible downside due to it being a little far from the main attractions of the city. Other than that, finding a parking spot nearby can prove to be a challenge if you came by car.
