Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Suites Farnese Design? The location is actually perfect in that quiet way that makes you feel like you’ve found Rome’s best-kept secret. It’s tucked on Via Alessandro Farnese in Prati – and I mean properly tucked away, not just marketing speak. This isn’t the touristy Vatican area where you’re dodging selfie sticks every five minutes; it’s where actual Romans live and work, which honestly makes all the difference.

The hotel itself has this understated design thing going on that works really well. I’m talking clean lines and thoughtful touches without trying too hard to be trendy – you know those places that age terribly because they’re chasing whatever’s cool that year? This isn’t that. The suites (and they really are suites, not just rooms with a sitting area) have proper space to spread out, which if you’ve been cramped in typical European hotel rooms, you’ll appreciate. The kitchenettes are actually functional too – I managed to make decent coffee and keep groceries from the local market on Via Cola di Rienzo, which is maybe a seven-minute walk tops.

What I really love about this spot is how it sits in the neighborhood. You’re close enough to St. Peter’s that you can walk there in about fifteen minutes, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the circus that surrounds the Vatican most days. Plus – and this is key – you’re right near the Lepanto metro stop, so getting to the Colosseum or Spanish Steps is straightforward without the tourist trap pricing. The street itself is pretty quiet, especially at night, though you might catch some morning traffic sounds if you’re a really light sleeper. The 8.6 rating makes sense to me; it’s not flashy luxury, but it’s solid and well-thought-out in ways that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The staff knows their stuff too – they gave me restaurant recommendations that were spot-on, including this little place around the corner that doesn’t even have a proper sign but does incredible cacio e pepe. Honestly, if you want to feel like you’re staying in Rome rather than just visiting it, this is the kind of place that gets it right.

Reviews

  • Excellent location plenty of cafes and 15 min from Vatican – James from Ireland – 16 June 2025 (8/10)

    Clean rooms good location

What could be improved: 8-1 reception

  • Spacious, good location, reasonably comfortable, needs a decor upgrade but still RECOMMENDED – Catherine from Australia – 26 May 2025 (9/10)

Suite Farnese Design via Alessandro Farnese 8, whilst in a quiet, sophisticated area of Roma is within comfortable walking distance of many iconic Roman tourist spots and local restaurants.

After successfully accessing the apartment via the multi-stage access procedure you will sleep safely in the knowledge of your invulnerability to the many criminal elements of the Italian populace. The reception is serviced from 8.00 – 1.00 to assist the less competent with access. We had room 302 and other rooms may have a different configuration.

The apartment (room) was large with a very large, integral bedroom and living area and a small but functional bathroom. The decor and furniture is of “antiquity” style, with the wallpaper behind the extra large bed a blend of old Rome and an incipient mould look. The furniture is old World, with the corner desk successfully hiding a small fridge. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided and a second sofa bed for the extended family. With a relatively low expenditure, the decor of the room could be significantly enhanced.

Whilst the bathroom is small, it is functional, although the shower will require assistance from your wife or a Mensa level IQ to operate.

Breakfast is provided in another hotel, Hotel 21, within 200M of the Suite. The breakfast was excellent, with an extensive range of hot and cold fare to cater for both the “Western” and Mediterranean diet, in a rooftop dining area.

There is a supermarket within walking distance; turn left on leaving the building, first right and the supermarket is about 400M on your left. A small, invisible entrance and make sure you check your receipt as overcharging may be endemic.

Whilst this review may sound a bit negative, the key question is “would we book this accommodation again.” A definite YES so it must be rated RECOMMEND.

What could be improved: The decor (wallpaper) leaves a bit to be desired and does little to enhance the room appearance. A minor upgrade to the furniture and room decor would significantly hence its attraction and general appeal.

  • Although we only stayed one night, I thought the location/room/staff were very hospitable & helpful. – Florence from United States – 19 May 2025 (10/10)

The building was within walking distance from the main sites and it was easy to navigate around especially when one does not speak italian. The host, Andres, was exceptionally helpful with my needs and I would definitely recommend the Suites Farnese Design to my friends/colleagues.

What could be improved: I don't have any negative remarks to officer at this time.

  • Very good place to stay – Joanne from United Kingdom – 10 May 2025 (9/10)

Good location and friendly staff. Fabulous sized room.

  • Superb – Marie from New Zealand – 20 April 2025 (9/10)

Location was good to get to most attractions by walking. Big spacious room with balcony to watch the bats at night .

  • We had a wonderful time in our apartment and in Rome – Eelke from Netherlands – 23 March 2025 (8/10)

    Very good room and bathroom!

What could be improved: Al lot of noise from the restaurant next door

  • Superb – Rapo from Albania – 9 March 2025 (9/10)

    All

  • Very good – Bart from Netherlands – 18 December 2024 (8/10)

Place , room ok , building ok

What could be improved: The sound of people above the room and the noice of airconditioning in the night ( the sound of water was running )

  • The hotel is like an Air B&B with a staff during office hours, breakfast is a few minutes walk to Hotel 21, Locatio – Grace98 from Australia – 13 November 2024 (9/10)

Location , near the Vatican but near to a Metro (Lepanto) and bus stop 2-5 mins walk away that will take you to some of the famous touristy sites, just be sure to download the Rome transport App.

What could be improved: None that I can think of.

  • Superb – Karin from Canada – 1 November 2024 (9/10)

Great location. Close to metro station and many attractions are within walking distance. Great breakfast. Accommodations were very comfortable and clean. The staff were very helpful.
