Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be straight with you about Sophie Terrace Hotel – it’s one of those places that completely flips your expectations about what a three-star hotel near Rome’s central station should be like. I mean, when someone says “hotel by Termini,” you’re probably picturing something pretty grim, right? But this little gem on Via Principe Amedeo is honestly a total surprise. The street itself is actually quieter than you’d expect (though you’ll still hear the occasional motorbike at night – this is Rome, after all), and the hotel sits in this sweet spot where you’re close enough to everything but not drowning in tourist chaos.

What really got me about Sophie Terrace is how they’ve managed to create this genuinely welcoming atmosphere without trying too hard. The staff actually remembers your name after the first day, which – let’s be honest – doesn’t happen much anymore. And the rooms? Well, they’re not huge, but they’re thoughtfully designed with these little touches that show someone was actually thinking about what travelers need. The beds are properly comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are modern without being sterile. You know what I appreciated most? The soundproofing is surprisingly good – I was worried about being so close to the station, but once you’re inside, it’s genuinely peaceful. The breakfast situation is solid too, though don’t expect anything fancy. It’s that perfect Italian hotel breakfast where everything is simple but done right – proper espresso, fresh pastries, and they don’t make you feel rushed.

Here’s the thing that really sells this place for me: the location is actually brilliant if you know how to work it. Sure, you’re a five-minute walk from Termini (which means easy airport connections and trains anywhere in Italy), but you’re also right in this neighborhood that feels authentically Roman. There’s this fantastic little trattoria literally around the corner that I stumbled onto – the kind of place where the menu is handwritten and the owner’s grandmother is probably in the kitchen. Walking to the Colosseum takes about twenty minutes if you’re in the mood, or you can hop on the metro and be at the Spanish Steps in no time. The area gets a bit lively in the evenings, but it’s more “Romans heading out for dinner” than “drunk tourists,” if you know what I mean. Honestly, with a 9.3 rating, this place is doing something very right, and I think it’s because they’ve figured out how to be genuinely hospitable without all the corporate nonsense. It’s not luxury, but it’s comfortable, authentic, and run by people who clearly care about what they’re doing.

In this case, I have to start before our arrival. Some days before going to Rome the hotel reached out via WhatsApp and they told us that they are looking forward to welcome us and asked at what time we arrive. As we took a bus shuttle from the airport to the central station they also send us a map and a short description of getting to the hotel.
That was already a start I haven’t experienced in that nice way before.
And this brings us to the staff. We had some talks to Flo and Abdul and they were just brilliant. They gave us some authentic food recommendations, were very very helpful and also gave us some tips for sightseeing and some specials. They really do an absolutely decent job and were available 24/7 via WhatsApp and at the reception and also always open for a small chat.

The hotel itself is modern and the rooms are very nice and have a proper size. What’s also quite fascinating is there lovely rooftop where you enjoy drinks from the lobbybar or ofc your own beverages.
There are small minors but with hosts like them it’s so enjoyable to stay there. We had an awesome time and if we go to Rome again we will stay at the Sophie Terrace hotel.

The service at this hotel was impeccable as there are only 20 rooms. The view from the rooftop terrace was beautiful The rooms were spacious and nice. Provided air conditioning or heating. The tv has the ability to stream. A 5 to 8 minute walk from the train station. In a perfect location. Restaurant right out the door and Gabriel at the front desk was great by providing recommendations.

  • Karin from Japan (10/10)

The receptionists were so nice and friendly, location was perfect, just couple of minutes away from Termini, also I loved the view from the rooftop. The price of the bar at the reception was also reasonable. I’d love to stay here again.

  • Maria from Switzerland (10/10)

Comfortable room, very clean, nice location and super friendly staff

  • Yuki from Japan (10/10)

Gabriel kindly explained everything about sightseeing and the hotel without showing any sign of frustration, even though my English was not very good. He also kept my luggage both before check-in and after check-out, which made it much easier for me to explore the area.

Additionally, I received a complimentary bottle of water per person, which was chilled in the room’s refrigerator. The provided amenities included soap and other toiletries.
