Hotel Description

Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of three-star places in Rome, and honestly? Scheppers Hotel surprised me in the best way possible. You know how sometimes you book a place and just cross your fingers it’s not a disaster? Well, this one actually gets it right. It’s tucked away on Via Bogliasco in the Aurelio district – not exactly where first-time tourists end up, but that’s actually what makes it work.

The Aurelio neighborhood is one of those residential areas that feels properly Roman, if you know what I mean. You’re not dodging selfie sticks every five minutes, and the morning sounds are more about locals heading to work than tour groups. I mean, you’ll still hear the occasional motorbike roaring to life (it’s Rome, after all), but it’s that authentic city hum rather than tourist chaos. The hotel itself sits on a quiet street where you can actually get a decent night’s sleep – something I definitely can’t say about places closer to the Colosseum. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that overly formal front desk theater some places put on.

What really sold me on this place was how the staff seemed to know their stuff about getting around the city. They didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map – they actually marked up routes and mentioned which metro stops to avoid during rush hour. Speaking of getting around, you’re about a fifteen-minute walk to the Vatican Metro station, which honestly beats being right in the thick of Centro Storico and paying twice as much for the privilege of constant noise. The rooms have that clean, unfussy vibe that three-star places do well when they’re not trying to be something they’re not. My room faced the street, and while it wasn’t completely silent, it was perfectly manageable – just the kind of ambient city noise that actually helps you sleep if you’re used to urban living.

Here’s the thing about staying in Aurelio though – you get to see how Romans actually live. There’s a great little alimentari down the street where I grabbed breakfast supplies, and the evening passeggiata along the main drag feels genuine rather than performed for tourists. Sure, you’ll need to hop on transit to reach the big sights, but honestly, after a day of trudging around ancient ruins, coming back to a neighborhood where you can grab a proper coffee without paying tourist prices feels like a small victory. The hotel’s not trying to be boutique fancy or chain-hotel slick – it’s just solid, reliable, and run by people who seem to care about doing their job well. For the price point and that 8-rating it’s earned, Scheppers delivers exactly what you’d hope for without any unpleasant surprises.

Reviews

  • Superb – Marcel from South Africa – 10 June 2025 (9/10)

Excellent communication and staff very helpful. Quick to assist with any requests.

  • Ok price, thin walls so it was loud – Mia from Croatia – 10 October 2024 (7/10)

It was clean, for Roma prices they are acceptable.

What could be improved: It was very loudly, the receptionist was talking loudly early in the morning, for 7:30, and in the evening after 22:00.
Also the wall between rooms is so thin so I heard the alarm in other rooms

  • Good hotel – Jakegiulia from Malta – 2 January 2023 (8/10)

Good, quite location and close to bus stop. Host was super helpful. Safe parking also available in the premises.

What could be improved: Nothing. All was fine and value for what we paid for.

  • Good – Romeo from Albania – 1 April 2025 (7/10)

What could be improved: There is no reception after 11 pm to complain the below…. The night that we stayed on the upper floor it was like a teenager party, teens running and screaming around…. the next room person was talking to the phone for 2 3 hours and literally you can hear everything like no insulation at all.

  • 2 nights – Eliz from United Kingdom – 24 February 2025 (7/10)

    Room was nice size

What could be improved: We arrived late because of our flight , went into the hotel and no one was at the reception. Waited for 2hrs at the reception after our long wait no one turned up so we decided to look at the reception desk for note . Then we found an envelope with our name on it but no one bothered to email or message us to say they left a note . Location was hard to find , didn’t like the fact two single beds was pushed together to make double bed .

  • Good price/quality – Bogdan from Kazakhstan – 13 September 2024 (7/10)

Very polite staff! The tried to help us in every situations. Big room with cozy interior. Location outside of noise city, but with good transportation system. Good courtyard

What could be improved: Water in the shower didn’t go away quickly. And also there is a problem with the shower system, it was a broken and water flowed slowly. There is a bad smell in bathroom. Also room needs a renovation. A little bit noisy. We could here all outside noises

    Nice peaceful location.

What could be improved: Slightly away from the city center. Not many Breakfast options available. Room is not spacious to move around.
