Hotel Description
Look, I’ve walked past this little corner of Rome probably a hundred times before I actually stayed at Sangiò Guest House, and honestly? I was kicking myself for not discovering it sooner. The thing is, when you’re standing right there on Piazza di San Giovanni in Laterano – and I mean literally right there, like you could throw a stone at the basilica if you had terrible judgment – you sort of expect touristy mediocrity. But this place actually gets it right.
The guest house sits in this gorgeous old building that’s got that weathered Roman charm without feeling like it’s about to crumble on you. What I love about the location is that you’re technically in the heart of everything, but Monti has this village-y feel that the Spanish Steps area completely lacks. You know what I mean? In the morning, you’ll hear the local baristas chatting with regulars at the café downstairs instead of tour groups arguing about gelato flavors. The rooms themselves are clean and thoughtfully done – not fancy, but someone clearly cared about the details. My bathroom had this incredible old mirror that looked like it belonged in a film, and the bed was actually comfortable (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given at three-star places in Rome).
Here’s the thing that sold me on this spot: you can walk to the Colosseum in about ten minutes, but you can also stumble into Via del Boschetto for dinner and feel like you’ve discovered some secret corner of the city. The staff – well, they’re not going to change your life or anything, but they know their neighborhood and they’ll point you toward the good stuff. I remember asking about breakfast and instead of some corporate spiel, the guy just said “honestly, skip ours and go to the pasticceria around the corner – their cornetti are ridiculous.” That’s the kind of realness you want when you’re trying to actually experience a place. The 7.9 rating makes sense to me because it’s not trying to be something it’s not – it’s a solid, well-located base for exploring Rome without the tourist tax you pay closer to the Pantheon. Fair warning though: the elevator is one of those tiny European things that makes you question your packing choices, and if you’re expecting a pool or concierge service, you’re looking at the wrong category of place. But if you want to wake up to church bells instead of tour buses, and you like the idea of having actual Romans as neighbors instead of just other travelers, then this little spot in Monti is going to work out just fine for you.

Superb – Nysovannak from Cambodia – 19 August 2024 (9/10)
The location is great, and the room has enough space for two people!
Worth – Aravinda from Germany – 3 October 2023 (8/10)
Very good location, sufficient room size, separate bathroom & clear instruction to check-in. Extra time to hold our luggage after check-out.
What could be improved: No elevator functioning, so if u come with heavy luggage, it will be difficult. If I have the opportunity to go to Rome again, I will definitely stay at this hotel. – Hanna from Spain – 3 September 2023 (9/10)
I liked everything.
What could be improved: –Very good – Ilgiz from Denmark – 9 August 2023 (8/10)
1. The air conditioner was working great.
What could be improved: 1. The sink had the problem that the lid could get easily stuck and not let the water go.
2. The keychain was not firm, so the keys dropped easily on the first day.
3. The room was very small for two people – no place to locate the open luggage.Nice stay – Elena from Cyprus – 13 July 2023 (8/10)
Walking distance from most attractions and the metro station. Very clean. Even though there was no staff at the property, which didn’t bothered us at all, they were very helpful and prompt in answering to any questions and clarifications requested via whats up. Everything is self service.
What could be improved: Since it is located in a main road, the noise from the cars was very loud. We had difficulty in sleeping at nightVery good – Johnny from Australia – 16 May 2023 (8/10)
Our stay was great, hosts were very easy to contact and all information provided for entry and prerequisites was very easy to follow. We had a great stay, very clean and comfortable. Was great to be able to access tea, coffee, breakfast anytime.
What could be improved: Breakfast was good, however it could have been better. I know Italians love a sweet breakfast, but perhaps just bread or non-animal milk alternatives would have been helpful.Fabulous location, comfortable beds and very clean – Verity from United Kingdom – 8 April 2023 (9/10)
Wonderful location. So close to metro and the bus stop is outside. There is a lovely cafe just next door which do great coffees and bakery items which are good value and tasty. The rooms are nice, beds very comfortable and shower is really good. Even though check in is remote it was all hassle free, we could leave our baggage in communal area and even though we had problems with the WiFi it was sorted by the host over WhatsApp communication. It's all very clean
What could be improved: I would have liked some savoury options for breakfast, maybe some sliced bread to make some toast as we weren't keen on the sweet options but I guess that's our preference.Very good – Maja from Poland – 20 March 2025 (8/10)
Location was great, it was clean and the price was decent
What could be improved: It was noisy all the timeExcellent value for money, excellent location, would stay again, simple arrival – checkin procedures – Hossain from United Kingdom – 22 January 2025 (8/10)
Excellent location, room with all facilities
What could be improved: Room size rather small but worked wellI had a good stay! – Jiaya from China – 14 August 2024 (8/10)
big shower, air conditioner, the location is also quite ok, 15 mins walk to Colosseo, 30 mins walk to train station.
What could be improved: the wifi is not really working in the room.
