Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Saint John Loft? The name is actually kind of perfect – it really does feel like staying in someone’s stylish converted loft rather than a traditional hotel. I mean, you’re tucked away on Via Corfinio in San Giovanni, which honestly might be one of Rome’s best-kept secrets for travelers who want to feel like they’re living in the city instead of just visiting it. The whole area has this authentic Roman neighborhood vibe that you just don’t get near the Colosseum or Trevi Fountain, but here’s the thing – you’re still only about a 15-minute metro ride from all the major sights.

The building itself has that industrial-chic thing going on (hence the loft name, I suppose), but it’s done really well, not like those places that try too hard to be trendy. Check-in was surprisingly smooth – none of that awkward waiting around in a cramped lobby situation. The staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood inside and out, which you’d be amazed how rare that is. They pointed me toward this little bakery around the corner that I never would have found otherwise, and honestly, their cornetti were better than anything I had in the touristy areas. The rooms have these big windows that let in tons of natural light, and the beds are actually comfortable – I know that sounds basic, but you’d be surprised how many four-star places mess that up. There’s this attention to detail that feels genuine rather than corporate, if that makes sense.

What really sold me on the area though was walking around in the evenings. San Giovanni has all these little wine bars and family-run trattorias where you’ll hear way more Italian than English, which is exactly what I was hoping for. The Basilica di San Giovanni is literally a few blocks away, and it’s this massive, gorgeous church that somehow doesn’t have crowds of tour groups swarming around it. During the day, there’s actually decent parking nearby (well, decent for Rome standards), and the streets aren’t completely chaotic with scooters and buses like they are in Centro Storico. The metro stop is close enough that you’re never really stranded, but far enough that you don’t have that constant rumble of trains under your feet. I stayed there in late September, and the whole neighborhood just felt alive but not overwhelming – people heading to work, kids walking to school, that sort of authentic daily rhythm you rarely get to experience as a tourist. With a 9.6 rating, I was expecting it to be good, but honestly, it exceeded even those expectations.

  We had a great stay here. The apartment is very nice and well equipped. Also, it has a great location being near the metro station and bus station. The place was very clean. Jimmy was very nice and he even left us some stuff for breakfast.

  Metro and bus access are good, walking is also an option. A lot of room, the two sofa beds add so much versatility. Clean, comfortable and well designed apartment.
