Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about S.Apollonia Suite Trastevere? The square it sits on – Piazza di Sant’Apollonia – is one of those little pockets in Rome that feels completely removed from the tourist chaos, even though you’re literally in the heart of Trastevere. I mean, most people race past this spot heading to the main piazza, but honestly, that’s exactly why this place works so well. The building itself has that weathered Roman elegance you can’t fake – thick stone walls that actually keep things cool in summer (trust me on this, it matters in July), and the kind of worn marble steps that have seen centuries of foot traffic.

The suites themselves are pretty thoughtfully done. I’m talking about real space here, not those cramped “junior suites” you sometimes get stuck with. The kitchenettes are actually functional – like, you could legitimately make breakfast without bumping into furniture every two seconds. And the beds? Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places where they skimp on mattresses, but these are solid. The bathrooms surprised me too – proper water pressure and they don’t flood when you shower, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how many places get this wrong. The design walks that fine line between authentic Italian style and modern comfort without feeling like a museum or a corporate hotel.

What really sells this place though is the neighborhood situation. You’re about a three-minute walk from Via di San Francesco a Ripa, which is where actual Romans do their shopping – there’s this incredible alimentari where the owner will literally argue with you about which cheese to buy (in the best way possible). The morning market on nearby streets starts around 7 AM if you’re into that scene. And here’s the thing about Trastevere that guidebooks don’t always mention – the evening crowd dynamics are completely different depending on which streets you’re on. This location puts you close enough to the action around Piazza di Santa Maria that you can walk to dinner, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the late-night bar crowd stumbling around under your windows. Actually, the only real noise issue I noticed was church bells in the morning, but honestly, if you’re staying in Rome and complaining about church bells, you’re missing the point. The 8.9 rating makes sense – it’s not perfect (the Wi-Fi can be spotty in some corners, and don’t expect concierge service), but it delivers on what matters most: location, comfort, and that feeling like you’re actually staying in Rome rather than just visiting it.

Reviews

  • Good location and comfortable bedrooms. – Janet from United States – 3 April 2025 (8/10)

Bedrooms were large with double-pane windows to keep down outside sounds, beds were comfortable. Nice updated bathrooms. Andrea responded quickly to texts. Located near many restaurants and within walking distance to Centro Storico.

What could be improved: There was no living room for everyone to sit together.

  • Great appartment and great host in the heart of Trastevere. – Johannes from Austria – 17 March 2025 (10/10)

Top location in the heart of Trastevere. Easy exchange of keys as Andrea is a very friendly and helpful host. Could not have been any better for a weekend in Rome. Plenty of bars and shops nearby.

  • Exceptional – Juanita from United Kingdom – 8 February 2025 (10/10)

Apartment was top class. Clean, comfortable, everything needed for a good stay. Restaurants very close by and close to all attractions
.would definitely recommend a stay here.

What could be improved: There was nothing not to like.

  • Made discovering Rome even better! – Alison from Australia – 13 December 2024 (10/10)

Loved the convenience to great food and facilities, spaciousness and helpfulness of the host. Afterbig days trekking around the city this place was very comfy and clean to come back to.

What could be improved: Nothing bad for us!

  • Perfect atmosphere – Maria from Bulgaria – 8 November 2024 (10/10)

Extremely kind host. Andrea helped us with advices and was very responsive. And the place is wonderful – clean, spacious, equipped with everything you need. It is located in Trastevere – a fabulous neighborhood. We would come back again.

  • feel at home in the middle of Trastevere – Erez from Israel – 23 October 2024 (9/10)

excellent location, loads of restaurants just when you step out , very spacious, clean, nice balcony facing an inner court

What could be improved: although the double (or maybe triple) glazing windows, some street noise could be still heard inside (though not too disturbing), the street door is tricky to open – make sure you figure it out when you get the keys

  • Fabulous 😊 awesome apartment and location 😊😊 – Fotheringham from New Zealand – 17 October 2024 (10/10)

A fabulous place to stay, we loved our time and will hopefully be back one day 😊

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Perfect location, excellent host!! – Kathryn from United States – 6 October 2024 (9/10)

We loved being right in the heart of Trastevere. Everything you could need is within a 3-5 minute walk. The apartment I had four spacious bedrooms and two full bathrooms. It was perfect for our family. Super clean and Andrea has thought of everything – garment racks in the bedrooms, washing machine, lots of delicious coffee in the kitchen, and seating on the balconies. He even arranged private transport to the airport for us. We will definitely stay here again!

What could be improved: We were a bit short on hot water (we had a group of 5).

  • Rome is an amazing city to visit, although a very busy city which was overwhelmingly at times. This property was our san – Jane from Australia – 27 September 2024 (9/10)

The location was absolutely perfect for what we wanted to see and do. The bedrooms were all a really good size and the bed’s comfortable enough for us. Andrea was so helpful with providing suggestions for local restaurants (so many to choose from right outside the door), and grocery shopping along with organising a driver for us to get to the airport.

What could be improved: A microwave oven would have made the kitchen complete for reheating food or drinks quickly. We only needed 3 bedrooms and could have done with a lounge area for sitting together. We found we all spent time in our own rooms rather than together.

  • Fantastic location, and Andrea was helpful with check in and arranging a taxi to the airport. – Ellen from Israel – 14 July 2024 (10/10)

The location was brilliant, friendly district in central Rome. Rooms were big and a small balcony. There’s no lounge in the property but we knew that because it’s clear from the description.
