Hotel Description

You know what? When I first walked into Rufina’s Home, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect – the name makes it sound like you’re crashing at someone’s aunt’s place. But this little gem tucked right into Piazza di Santa Rufina is actually one of those finds that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special in Trastevere, which let’s be real, isn’t easy to do anymore with all the tourist crowds.

The location is pretty perfect if you know Rome at all. You’re literally steps from the heart of Trastevere but on this quiet little piazza that most people just walk through without really noticing. I mean, you’ve got all the cobblestone charm and medieval atmosphere you came for, but you can actually get some sleep at night because you’re not right on top of the main drags like Viale di Trastevere where the trams clatter by. The morning light hits the piazza just right around 8 AM – there’s something about the way it bounces off the old church facade that makes you want to grab a coffee and just sit there for a while. Speaking of coffee, there’s this little place around the corner (locals call it “da Mario” though I’m not sure that’s the official name) where you can get a proper cappuccino for about half what you’d pay near the Pantheon.

What really got me about this place is how they’ve managed to keep it feeling authentic while still being, well, actually comfortable. The rooms have this lived-in elegance – not Instagram-perfect but genuinely welcoming. The staff actually knows the neighborhood, too, which is rarer than you’d think. They’ll point you toward the good aperitivo spots where Romans actually go (hint: it’s not the places with English menus), and they’re honest about timing – like how Sunday mornings are perfect for wandering because all the tourists are still sleeping off Saturday night, or how the evening passeggiata really picks up around 7 PM when the light starts getting golden. The Wi-Fi is solid, the air conditioning works without sounding like a helicopter, and honestly, the shower pressure is better than my apartment back home. Sure, the elevator is one of those tiny European ones that fits maybe two people and a small suitcase, but that’s half the charm, right? Plus, you’re in a neighborhood where walking is actually a pleasure, not a chore – to the river, to Campo de’ Fiori, even across to the Jewish Quarter if you don’t mind a nice stroll.

  • A good place to stay in Rome – Giovanni from United Kingdom – 1 December 2024 (10/10)

Newly refurbished flat , very comfortable and excellent location

  • Lovely flat in cool Trastevere neighborhood – Charity from Switzerland – 24 October 2024 (9/10)

Great location in Trastevere, well-appointed renovated, clean flat, lots of restaurants and bars nearby.

What could be improved: The stairs up to the property are steep – but only 15 of them – so manageable.

  • Wonderful stay! Will return! Perfect Location! – Lisa from Canada – 19 October 2024 (9/10)

Rufina's house was fantastic! It has two bedrooms —one with a queen bed and the other with a single bed which were comfortable. Both rooms had a tv and plenty of storage space—and I believe the living room couch has a hide-a-bed. The couch was super comfy! There are two renovated bathrooms, each with a shower, and one includes the washing machine. The living room is spacious. What stood out to me were the windows, which had an additional layer that acted as a sound barrier, greatly reducing the noise from the lively street celebrations. Trastevere feels a bit like New Orleans, with tourists enjoying music, bars, and restaurants, making it a noisy area at night. However, thanks to the soundproof windows, we had no trouble sleeping. The kitchen even had espresso pods, so we could enjoy coffee in the morning. I would definitely stay here again as it is close to the Tiber river so all the attractions are not far away by foot. As well, Trastevere is the perfect end to a busy day of walking around Rome, as this area is full of restaurants and street entertainment.
Final note, Rufina's place is 15 stairs up to the front door in case someone has mobility issues. Very clean!

What could be improved: The front door lock was a tiny bit hard to open. Don't let this deter you. It's a very secure door and lock, I just needed to figure it out when to stop turning the key to the right to open the 4 bolts.

  • Super practical stay in central location with all comfort and very quiet – Federica from United Arab Emirates – 29 September 2024 (9/10)

New, conveniente, super silent, position great

What could be improved: Would be good to have more bath soap

  • Superb – Alanna from United States – 24 September 2024 (9/10)

The apartment is in a great lively location, but it was so quiet in the apartment. It was very comfortable for a family of four.

What could be improved: When we arrived the beds for the kids weren't made and the communication was a little rough at times, but it ended up working out in the end.

  • We had a short but wonderful stay. – Monica from United States – 9 September 2024 (10/10)

Very nicely updated. Bright and clean. Great location!

  • We enjoyed it a lot even though most of the time we were out. – Jonida from Albania – 16 June 2024 (10/10)

Everything! It was in a good location surrounded by caffes and restaurants. Really nice design and very comfy, and it had all nessessary tools.

    What could be improved: Nothing!

  • A fantastic home base to discover Rome – Isabella from France – 30 June 2025 (8/10)

Great location, comfortable beds, space ok for 6 people

What could be improved: The plumbing had issues (week water flow in shower and toilet), and depending on cleanliness expectations there is room for improvement, to be avoided when people need silence during the night
