Hotel Description

So I stumbled across Rhoome Holiday during one of those desperate late-night booking sessions, and honestly? Best accidental find in Rome. The place sits right on Via Merulana in Monti – and if you don’t know Monti yet, you’re missing out on what’s basically Rome’s coolest neighborhood that hasn’t been completely overtaken by tourists wielding selfie sticks.

What I love about this spot is how it actually feels like you’re staying in the real Rome, not some sanitized hotel bubble. The building itself has that lived-in Italian charm – you know, the kind where the elevator is tiny but works perfectly, and the hallways have this particular echo that only old Roman buildings get. The rooms are surprisingly spacious for a 4-star in the city center, and they’ve done this smart thing where they’ve kept the original architectural details but added modern touches that actually make sense. The bathrooms are proper sized too, which… well, anyone who’s stayed in European hotels knows that’s not always a given.

But here’s the thing that really sold me on this place – step outside and you’re literally in the heart of one of Rome’s most authentic neighborhoods. I mean, Via Merulana itself isn’t much to look at, but walk two minutes in any direction and you’re either at the Colosseum (seriously, it’s right there) or wandering through these narrow cobblestone streets lined with wine bars where locals actually drink. There’s this amazing little osteria called Flavio al Velavevodetto just around the corner that I never would have found if I’d stayed in the touristy areas near the Spanish Steps. Plus, you’ve got the Cavour metro stop practically at your doorstep, so getting around is dead simple.

The staff here gets it too – they’re not overly polished in that fake hospitality way, but they know their stuff. When I asked about avoiding crowds at the Colosseum, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a pamphlet; he actually explained the best times to go and which entrance to use. Little things like that make such a difference when you’re trying to navigate a city like Rome.

Look, I’m not going to pretend it’s perfect – the street can get a bit noisy in the evenings (though that’s just Rome being Rome), and the Wi-Fi occasionally decides to take a siesta. But for the price point and location, especially in a neighborhood where you can grab incredible cacio e pepe at 11 PM or find yourself in a conversation with a local artist over morning coffee, it’s pretty hard to beat. That 8.3 rating makes total sense – it’s the kind of place that does what it promises really well, without any unnecessary frills or pretense.

    Great place for 4 adults.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Great location of you need to get to the train – James from United States – 31 May 2024 (8/10)

In a good part of town but also walkable from the Roma Termini. The apartment itself is nice and well furnished.

What could be improved: The only issue was noise on the street since it’s near a busy area. That can be difficult for light sleepers. But I wouldn’t hold that against it.

  • Our stay was lovely. Great location to the train station and walkable to most attractions. I would definitely recommen – Secrist from United States – 28 May 2024 (9/10)

The owners were extremely accommodating and super helpful!

What could be improved: It is on a very noise street

  • We enjoyed our stay and the beds were very comfortable. – Joanne from United States – 19 May 2024 (8/10)

    Clean and updated apartment.

What could be improved: There was no area to sit comfortably as a group, just the kitchen table.

  • we recommend this apartment for a group, hosts were fine and attended to a broken patio door promptly and location was f – Dianne from Australia – 22 October 2022 (7/10)

it was a great stay for our group of 5….loved the location, proximity to the HOHO bus, plenty of restaurants and supermarkets …beds were very comfy and great terrace area …lift worked well which is important for older travellers ….good hosts, explained the workings

What could be improved: why we didn’t rate it higher was the kitchen facilities, we wanted to make our own breakfasts, no electric kettle (cook top was iffy) no toaster, limited utensils, for overseas visitors who like to do their own thing, it was a let down for us

  • Very good – Aleksandra from Poland – 19 February 2025 (8/10)

Great location,a friendly and helpful host. Perfect for a group of friends or family. A few steps from Colosseum. The shop is on the opposite side of the street.

What could be improved: Too small kettle in the kitchen. To make tea for 7 people, we had to boil water 3-4 times. No spare rubbish bags. Small rubbish bin is full very quickly. Not enough toilet paper left. Extra charge for towels.

  • Good location – Naohiro from Germany – 13 August 2023 (8/10)

It is an apartment near the central station, and there is a supermarket nearby, so the location is good.

  • Spacious bedrooms and cold a/c. – Karen from United States – 17 July 2023 (8/10)

Loved the amount of bedrooms and the sized of the beds. The bathrooms were also very nice.

What could be improved: I didn't like that the only living space besides the bedrooms was outside and when it is 90+ degrees, the last place you want to be is outside.
