Hotel Description

You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Rome, but Residenza Lungotevere dei Mellini actually surprised me – and I mean that in the best way possible. It’s tucked away on Via Marianna Dionigi, which honestly sounds fancy but is just this quiet residential street in Prati that most tourists never find. The building itself is classic Roman elegance, and you’re on the third floor (first piano, if you want to sound local), so there’s this nice sense of being above the street noise but still connected to the neighborhood.

The thing about staying in Prati is that you’re living like Romans do – not the touristy version, but the real deal. There’s this incredible bakery about two blocks down that locals line up at every morning, and the Wednesday market on Via Trionfale is maybe a ten-minute walk where you can actually buy decent prosciutto without paying tourist prices. The Vatican is close enough that you can walk there easily, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the crowds of people following umbrella-wielding guides at 7 AM. I mean, you can still hear the bells from St. Peter’s on quiet mornings, which is pretty magical if you think about it.

What really got me about this place was the attention to detail – not in that stuffy, don’t-touch-anything way, but more like staying at a friend’s beautifully appointed apartment. The rooms have this understated Italian sophistication that feels authentic rather than designed for Instagram. The beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms have proper water pressure, which… well, if you’ve stayed in historic Roman buildings before, you know that’s not always guaranteed. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience too – they’ll give you actual recommendations, not just the standard tourist circuit. When I asked about getting to Trastevere for dinner, the woman at reception drew me a little map showing the best route along the river and mentioned which bridges have the nicest views at sunset.

Honestly, the 9.8 rating makes sense once you’re there. It’s not trying to be the flashiest place in Rome – it’s just really, really good at what it does. The location alone is worth it if you want to experience Rome beyond the Colosseum-Trevi Fountain-Spanish Steps triangle. You’re a short walk from Castel Sant’Angelo, the river walks are gorgeous for morning runs, and there’s something satisfying about staying in a neighborhood where you hear Italian conversations instead of tour group chatter. Plus, if you need to get anywhere else in the city, the Lepanto metro stop is right there, though honestly, walking along the Tiber is usually more pleasant than taking the subway.

Very clean and modern with amazing location. The hosts were very friendly and supportive

What could be improved: There were not enough windows and it didn’t have much sunlight.

  • Exceptional – Tanith from United Kingdom – 2 November 2024 (10/10)

The hosts were very responsive and helpful with any questions. Really good location with local supermarkets and places to eat away from the hustle of the centre but easy walking distances to key attractions. Good place to relax in the evening which the kids appreciated.

  • Cosy stay in a great location! – Dricxx from Singapore – 30 October 2024 (9/10)

Good location- we were able to walk to both the Vatican City and the other places of interest (e.g. Pantheon, Trevi, Spanish Steps. Colloseum too). Could take about 10 to 30mins walk depending on the place. Near to restaurants, pharmacy, supermarket.
Apartment is clean! There is an elevator though you need a few steps to get to it.
Apt is equipped – has a oven, stove, washing machine, cutleries, iron, you name it…

Host (Vicenzo) is easily contactable and friendly. Iulia met us one the first day and gave a in depth information about the area etc. They also gave free biscuits and wine.

What could be improved: Apt is small/cosy but this is something you can check prior to booking!

  • Fantastic location, quality accommodation – Jo from United Kingdom – 13 September 2024 (10/10)

Property is in a truly excellent location, walkable to all major sites including The Vatican. Beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Equipped with everything you need for a city break including a washing machine. Owners sent some great recommendations for bars, restaurants etc which are so helpful in a new ciry. We flew into one Rome airport and out from the other. Owner was able to arrange transport to/from both airports for us which made our break stress free.

What could be improved: All excellent

  • Great – Marah from United Arab Emirates – 6 September 2024 (10/10)

It was a great apartment, very clean, and the kindness of the hosts was beyond expectations. We had a pleasant stay.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Exceptional – Barna from United States – 3 September 2024 (10/10)

    Very nice place.
