Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Residenza Domizia? The address situation – it’s one of those quirky Roman things where you think you’re going to Via dei Coronari 14, but actually check in at number 236. Don’t worry, it’s not as confusing as it sounds, and honestly, once you figure it out, you’ll appreciate why they do it this way. The whole setup is tucked into this incredible stretch of Via dei Coronari, which is basically antique shop heaven if you’re into that sort of thing. I mean, you’re literally staying on one of Rome’s most atmospheric streets, the kind where you half expect to bump into someone from a Fellini film.

The building itself has that understated elegance that Roman hotels do so well when they’re not trying too hard. It’s a proper 4-star place, but there’s something refreshingly un-flashy about it – like they know they’re sitting in the heart of the centro storico and don’t need to shout about it. The rooms have this lived-in sophistication, if that makes sense. Not museum-perfect, but comfortable in a way that makes you feel like you could actually relax there. What really gets me is how quiet it manages to be, considering you’re practically breathing down the Pantheon’s neck. Via dei Coronari has this magical quality where it feels bustling during the day with all the shoppers and wanderers, but settles into this almost medieval calm in the evenings.

Here’s the thing about staying in Navona – and I mean really staying there, not just visiting – you start to understand Rome’s rhythm differently. From Residenza Domizia, you can stumble to Campo de’ Fiori for morning coffee (skip the touristy spots in the actual campo, by the way, and hit one of the side streets), then wander over to Piazza Navona when the light hits just right in late afternoon. The Spanish Steps feel like a pleasant walk rather than a mission, and you’re close enough to Trastevere that crossing the river for dinner doesn’t feel like an expedition. Actually, some of my favorite moments were just walking back “home” at night, when the narrow streets empty out and you get these glimpses of lit windows and the sound of Romans going about their evening routines. The 8.4 rating makes total sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Rome, but it nails that sweet spot of location, comfort, and authenticity that makes you feel like you’re living in the city rather than just visiting it.

Reviews

  • I would book again! – David from Canada – 27 May 2025 (9/10)

    Great location for our needs.

What could be improved: Would have liked complimentary water daily and towels changed daily, instead of every 3 days.

  • Ill stay again given the chance – Shandy from Philippines – 26 May 2025 (9/10)

The room has a quaint touch to it

  • Very good – La from United States – 25 May 2025 (8/10)

It was a good location and the staff was very nice

  • Wonderful location in lovely old building – Daisy from United Kingdom – 16 May 2025 (7/10)

    Fantastic location

What could be improved: Terrible WiFi

  • Superb – Gill from Ireland – 28 February 2025 (9/10)

Clean and tidy. Great location. This is my second time to stay here.

  • Good – Zoe from Canada – 10 December 2024 (7/10)

    Great location

What could be improved: Check in process was very confusing. You need to get a phone plan prior because the check in location is not at the same place as the unit. And the front desk is not staffed.

  • Fabulous Location – David from Canada – 9 November 2024 (8/10)

The property is in an EXCELLENT location. It is a two minute walk to Piazza Navona. All of the attractions are in walking distance. There are great restaurants in the neighborhood. The beds are comfortable and it is clean. The staff was available and even alerted us to an upcoming transport strike.

What could be improved: We had the room that accommodates three people. It was tight. The shower was fine but was also a bit small with no place to put shampoo or soap (not a huge deal)

  • Superb – Aline from United States – 17 September 2024 (9/10)

The location is superb, the place is beautiful and clean. The service was also very good, although we didn't meet anyone in person everything was taken care of over Whatsapp.

What could be improved: Bath towels were in theory supposed to be changed every 3 days, in our 5 day visit we didn't get any clean towels. The bathroom lacked a surface for toiletries and the shower stall is very small, a bigger person would have a very difficult time showering. But these are minor details, our stay was very pleasant.

  • Superb – Nicoleta from Romania – 11 August 2024 (9/10)

The location was excellent, the room was really clean and with nice design. It was very well equiped with many plugs (we each had our phones, tablets, power bank so it was really handy), full body mirror, hair dryer, even a spare adapter plug.

What could be improved: The wifi was someitmes working slow

  • Good – Dom from New Zealand – 26 July 2024 (7/10)

Amazing location, central to most of Rome, lots of great food options near by and very pretty and authentic building.
