Hotel Description

Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places around Rome, but Residenza del Cedro actually surprised me – and honestly, that doesn’t happen often anymore. You know how Trastevere can be a total zoo, especially around the main squares? Well, this little gem sits tucked away on Vicolo del Cedro, which is basically this narrow side street that most tourists never stumble across. I mean, you’re still right in the heart of everything, but it’s like finding a quiet pocket in all the chaos.

The building itself has that authentic Roman charm without feeling like they’re trying too hard, if that makes sense. When I walked in, the first thing I noticed was how they’ve managed to keep the original character – those thick stone walls, the worn but elegant floors – while actually making everything work for modern travelers. The staff genuinely seemed to know their stuff about the neighborhood, not just the usual “oh, the Colosseum is that way” nonsense. They pointed me toward this little trattoria on Via della Lungaretta that I never would’ve found otherwise, and honestly, it ended up being one of my best meals in Rome.

What really won me over was the attention to details that actually matter. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Rome, after all – but they’re thoughtfully laid out, and the beds are properly comfortable (I’m picky about this stuff). The bathrooms are surprisingly well-designed for what’s clearly an older building, and the water pressure is decent, which… well, anyone who’s traveled around Italy knows that’s not always a given. You can hear the neighborhood coming to life in the mornings – kids heading to school, shop owners opening up – but it’s not the kind of noise that keeps you awake. Actually, I found it kind of charming after a few days.

The location is what really sets this place apart, though. You’re a two-minute walk from some of the best aperitivo spots in Trastevere, and you can easily wander over to the Jewish Quarter or even across to the Campo de’ Fiori area without feeling like you need to plan a major expedition. Plus – and this is crucial – you’re far enough from the main tourist drag that you won’t be fighting crowds of selfie-stick wielding visitors every time you step out your door. I stayed there in late spring, and while the main piazzas were absolutely packed, our little street stayed relatively peaceful.

Is it perfect? Well, no – the elevator is pretty tiny, and if you’re traveling with huge suitcases, you might struggle a bit. And don’t expect a big fancy lobby or anything like that. But that’s kind of the point. This feels like staying in a well-kept Roman residence rather than a generic hotel, and the 8.6 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there. It’s the kind of place where you actually feel like you’re living in Rome for a few days, not just passing through it.

  • Exceptional – Monika from Poland – 9 May 2025 (10/10)

We had a lovely time in Rome. The place is located in small, quiet street but very close to the center of Trastevere. The apartment was very good equipped, with good blinds on the windows, comfortable bed and renovated bathroom. There was no problem with hot water. Kitchenette was quite small, but enough for making coffee and warming up/cooking a simple meal. Wifi and Netflix worked great.
Our host Giuseppe was friendly and helpful. I am really hoping to return to this wonderful place again.

What could be improved: It would be better to provide door PIN in a message before arrival, because we had to wait a bit too long before an entrance.
There was no litter bin in the kitchenette.

  • Best Find In Trastevere! – Gerrie from Canada – 30 April 2025 (10/10)

Location! Friendly reception after hours – host kept us updated till our arrival. We took a cab from the airport and I was concerned that our cab driver wouldn't be able to find this obscure little door on a tiny road, after dark. No issues because our host had the door open and was waiting for us. Giuseppe helped us settle in, gave us a map and guided us on how to book our train/bus for our departure in 3 days to Sorrento.

When we walked down to the square that first night it was like my dreams came true. Tiny little streets, restaurants lit up with twinkling lights, friendly (not pushy) greeters everywhere we went. It's a lively area, full of people strolling through. We felt very safe and welcome, even with our lack of Italian. And the gelato was so delicious.

Our room was clean and big. Big windows for fresh air. Comfy bed and linens.

We walked to all the main sites of Rome. This location is just 10 minutes to the river and into Old Rome. Then you can explore wherever you want to go. If you're looking for a cab they are just down at the bridge.

What could be improved: We loved it all.
