Hotel Description
So I spent a few nights at Residenza Belli Inn last spring, and honestly? It’s one of those places that grows on you. You know how some hotels try way too hard to impress you the second you walk in, but this one’s different – it’s got this quiet confidence that comes from being tucked away on Via Goffredo Mameli, which is actually perfect because you’re right in the heart of Trastevere but not on one of those tourist-packed streets where you can’t sleep past 7 AM.
The thing about this place is it feels like staying at someone’s well-kept Roman apartment rather than a typical hotel. I mean, it’s officially a 3-star place, but the owners clearly put thought into the details – the floors have that satisfying old-world creak that somehow feels reassuring rather than annoying, and the shutters actually keep the light out when you want to sleep in (which, let’s be honest, is crucial after a night exploring Trastevere’s wine bars). The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re thoughtfully arranged, and I loved that my window looked out onto the narrow street where locals were constantly chatting with neighbors – you get that authentic Roman neighborhood vibe without the chaos of staying right on Viale di Trastevere. What really won me over was the morning routine: there’s this tiny café literally two doors down where the owner, Giuseppe, makes what I’m pretty sure is the best cornetto in the neighborhood, and the hotel staff will casually mention it like it’s no big deal. You’ll also want to know that parking is… well, forget about it unless you’re feeling very adventurous, but the tram stop on Viale di Trastevere is maybe a four-minute walk, and from there you can get pretty much anywhere in Rome without dealing with the metro crowds.
I’ll be straight with you – this isn’t a place for people who need a concierge and room service, and if you’re expecting a gym or pool, you’re looking at the wrong kind of Roman experience. But if you want to feel like you’re actually living in Trastevere for a few days, staying somewhere that locals walk past without thinking “tourist hotel,” then this is your spot. The 7.4 rating makes sense to me because it’s not trying to be everything to everyone – it’s just really good at being a comfortable, authentic base in one of Rome’s most charming neighborhoods. Plus, and this might sound weird, but the whole place smells faintly of espresso and that particular Roman mixture of old stone and fresh laundry that you only get in these residential areas. I’d definitely stay again, especially since I now know about Giuseppe’s cornetti.

all was ok
What could be improved: nothingReally great location, clean and great when needed for a place to sleep. – Thea from United Kingdom – 14 May 2024 (7/10)
Amazing location surrounded my great local restaurants. 30 minute walk to the Colosseum and Vatican and 20 minute walk from Piazza Navona!
What could be improved: The lock box where our key was placed when we first arrived took a while to get into and the wifi was a bit patchy.Decent option for Trastevere – Nicholas from United States – 10 November 2023 (7/10)
Pretty good location, close to everything in Trastevere, but a few blocks away from the main area.
What could be improved: Wifi wasn't great, the staff were nice but not around enough, no coffee refills, the bathroom had an automatic light that stayed on all the time. Expensive for a basic place to sleepNice – Georgia from Australia – 6 September 2023 (8/10)
Location was very good, heaps of places to eat within 10 minute walk. Beds were comfortable and room was good for a short stay. Staff were very kind
What could be improved: Nothinggreat location in a clean quaint apartment building. – Kaje from Greece – 10 April 2023 (7/10)
location — it is on a quiet residential street. the noise outside was from the locals dropping their garbage in the container and a bit of late night fun. it was only 3 blocks from the night life but quiet once turning the corner. local popular spot was across the street great for a quick spritz. I also loved that there was an instant espresso machine and a kettle in the room. saved a bit of time in the morning. towel service and quick cleaning was also very much appreciated.
What could be improved: pretty tiny for 3 adults. probably should
have realized this. the bathroom super tiny and
hard to have 2 people get ready at once. also it is on the first floor so if you are street side there is some ambient noise at interesting hours. not a lot but it is there. would have liked a second mirror in the closet / on the door to help facilitate getting ready in morning.Very good – Emma from New Zealand – 12 October 2022 (8/10)
excellent location. the room was small but clean and exactly what we needed for our three nights in Trastevere
Very happy with everything, very authentic Roman experience. Would highly recommend this place. – Leon from United Kingdom – 12 September 2022 (8/10)
Very nice staff. Great location.
What could be improved: Lighting in the room could be brighter.Comfortable, would stay again, but don’t expect perfect. – Katie from United Kingdom – 21 August 2022 (7/10)
Air conditioning was great, really comfortable beds, Prepare for a long list: weirdly, showers were too hot and there was no cold water on our first night. Oven didn’t work at all and based on past reviews seems not to have been working for months now. No hot water to wash stuff in kitchen. Air conditioning was only allowed at certain times regardless of whether guests were hot. Stains on bed linen and towels. Holes in pillow case. Pillow was as flat as a pancake. Toilets were incredibly hot and there were only three for whole hostel, because the fourth was out of order the whole time. Electricity kept cutting out on first night, sometimes for long periods of time- during a day of 43 degree heat this meant we had no air conditioning. Room had not been cleaned for days by the time we arrived and we had to ask multiple times for the room to be cleaned properly. Volunteers visibly fed up with owner of hostel not taking responsibility for problems mentioned above. Kitchen was dirty for basically the whole time we were there. Beds super squeaky, really thin steps to upper bunk which hurt feet. Air con didn’t easily reach whole room so some guests were hot, some were cold. Squeaky doors waking us up in the night. Flimsy toilet doors. No lock on bedroom doors. Smell of sewage in various areas of hotel. Locker area was dark because they’re under the lights rather than opposite them, this is a small annoyance but on top of everything else is part of a picture of a hostel that is in a state of disrepair with an owner that seems not to care about the quality of the guests’ stay.
What could be improved: Only one key between us in a bedroom of three, although staff did try and support us to share key. Lock was really stuck on door so had to fiddle with key for a while each time we tried to get in. Bathroom doorframe fell off in middle of night. A/C kept making vomiting sounds. Fridge didn’t work properly.
