Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Relais Roma Centro? It’s tucked away on this quiet little street – Via Dei Serviti – that feels like a secret locals have been keeping. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from the Trevi Fountain chaos, but somehow this narrow cobblestone street stays surprisingly peaceful. The building itself has that classic Roman charm without trying too hard – honey-colored stone, traditional shutters, the kind of place that looks like it’s been here forever (and probably has).

The thing about staying in Trevi is that tourists think it’s all about the fountain, but honestly, you’re positioned perfectly for everything else too. I’d walk out in the morning and grab coffee at this little bar on the corner where the barista knew everyone’s order by heart, then wander down to Via del Corso for shopping or cut through the backstreets toward the Pantheon. The hotel staff actually gave me these hand-drawn maps with their personal recommendations – not the usual tourist traps, but places like this tiny wine bar near Palazzo Altemps where locals go after work. That’s the kind of insider knowledge that makes a difference.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star in Rome – comfortable enough, decent size by European standards, though the bathroom was a bit snug (typical for older Roman buildings). What I appreciated was the attention to details that matter when you’re actually living there for a few days. The AC worked properly – crucial in summer – and the windows had good shutters that actually blocked out the morning light. The Wi-Fi was reliable, which honestly can be hit or miss in these historic buildings with thick walls. One minor thing though – if you’re a light sleeper, ask for a room facing the courtyard rather than the street. Via Dei Serviti is quiet, but you’ll still get some early morning delivery trucks rumbling over the cobblestones.

The staff seemed genuinely interested in making sure you had a good time in Rome, not just checking boxes. When I mentioned I was interested in seeing some lesser-known churches, the concierge spent ten minutes sketching out a walking route that included San Luigi dei Francesi (for the Caravaggio paintings) and this hidden gem called Santa Maria sopra Minerva. That’s the kind of service that bumps a decent hotel up to memorable. The breakfast was solid – nothing fancy, but fresh pastries and good coffee, plus they accommodated my early schedule when I wanted to beat the crowds at the Vatican.

Look, with a 7.9 rating, this isn’t Rome’s most luxurious hotel, but it gets the fundamentals right. The location is genuinely special – close enough to major sights that you can pop back to drop off shopping bags or rest your feet, but far enough from the main tourist streams that you feel like you’re experiencing real Roman neighborhood life. For the price point, especially considering you’re in the heart of historic Rome, it’s honest value without any pretense.

Reviews

  • Excellent location! – Matthew from United Kingdom – 3 March 2025 (9/10)

Accommodation was in a great location, close to public transport, amenities, sights and eateries. Rooms were clean and beds very comfortable, would stay again.

  • Very good – Robert from Australia – 3 December 2024 (8/10)

This was a great location, close to most attractions. The room was a good size with lots of space – unusual for Rome

What could be improved: No staff on site. We expected staff to be there at least during certain times. We only saw the cleaner who let us in when we arrived. However this did not cause any real problems except we could not store our bags when we arrived early.

  • Ideal Rome Location – Mana from United Kingdom – 19 September 2024 (9/10)

Location – excellent & great value, city centre in all directions within minutes.

Personable & communicative Reception Host – but they also leave & its almost like you're own AirBnB – so there's amazing lock/key system, so don't expect a full time concierge! Nor would you need one.

Room 105 was great; spacious, full length Mirror, enough basic equipment for 3 days in Rome (we're not an insanely fussy couple) but hot on cleanliness. So the room was very clean & storage in abundance, full length Mirror, all the basics for a tourist stay.
The free tea & coffee, water was a lovely touch.

Tons of shops/coffee immediately downstairs & wonderful Thai massage to the left alley way.
I thought was great for "Rome" given some of the prices elsewhere these days!

  • Superb – Sapernocta from Germany – 8 August 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: Showed head broken

  • Excellent location with friendly and helpful staff – Rose from Australia – 25 June 2024 (8/10)

Location is excellent. The staff were very friendly and available on WhatsApp to help with my questions. I had a lovely stay.

What could be improved: If anything, there is noise outside because it’s in a very busy spot so I recommend to bring ear plugs.

  • Great location – Yun from Malaysia – 18 June 2024 (7/10)

The location is great. Walking distance to Trevi Fountain. There’s also alot of restaurant options nearby, from morning to night. Very convenient for traveller. The staff are also great and friendly. They are not there at the reception 24/7, but they will keep in touch and reply all queries

What could be improved: The small room is really small and the shower as well, but it’s not a big deal, as we spent most of our time outside and only back to the hotel for rest and sleep.

  • Perfect location for our short stay – Cally from Australia – 4 June 2024 (9/10)

    Perfect location near Trevi fountain

What could be improved: Nothing it was great

  • Superb – Janet from United States – 28 April 2024 (9/10)

Very centrally located. Coffee shop/bakery just outside the building. Quiet and clean.

  • Very convenient for a short stay – User1728 from United Kingdom – 18 March 2024 (8/10)

Although the room is a bit small, it is very comfortable: a soft bed, AC in the room, bathroom has great water-pressure, and provides enough space suitcases and clothes. The room has a good fridge. The property also has a very nice terrace with a coffee machine. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The property has agreat location, close to many bars, restaurants, a metro station, points of interest, and grocery stores.

What could be improved: Shower head in the bathroom was loose.

  • Good Boutique small Hotel – Phil from United Kingdom – 10 March 2024 (8/10)

    Boutique style hotel.
    Location close to Trevi Fountain.

What could be improved: Gaining access to accommodation at the agreed time with Relais Roma Centro. We, & another separate booking, agreed to be checked in at 12:30. Eventually, person arrived to check us in at 13:00. It would have been appreciated to let us know if he was not arriving at agreed time.

On arrival, to check-in, we had major issue with rooms. Our booking was confirmed for 3 persons in 3 separate rooms. Unfortunately, Relais Roma Centro initially showed us having only 2 rooms. Took best of an hour to sort the confusion out.
Combined with the other problem above, it took best part of 90' minutes to check-in. Valuable time wasted.

Also, confusion over Bed & Brrakfast. On the booking details, Breakfast was initially shown. However, booking confirmation had no mention of breakfast. Reviewing the Relais Roma Centro website showed breakfast under its heading. However this proved incorrect & Brrakfast is NOT included.
