Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of Roman hotels, and honestly? The Relais Fontana Di Trevi caught me off guard in the best way possible. You walk down Via del Lavatore – which is this narrow, cobblestone street that feels more like a secret passage than a proper road – and suddenly you’re standing in front of what looks like a traditional Roman townhouse. The thing is, you’re literally about a two-minute walk from the Trevi Fountain, but somehow you’ve escaped all that tourist chaos.
The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that I wasn’t expecting. The lobby has these gorgeous original stone walls and warm lighting that makes you feel like you’re in someone’s elegant home rather than a hotel. Actually, that’s probably the best way to describe this place – it’s got that intimate, family-run vibe even though it’s professionally managed. My room was on the third floor (there’s an elevator, thank god, because Roman stairs will kill you), and I mean, the view wasn’t spectacular or anything, but there was something charming about looking out over the terracotta rooftops and hearing the distant sounds of the city waking up each morning.
What really impressed me was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about making your stay work. The woman at reception – I think her name was Giulia – didn’t just hand me a tourist map and call it a day. She actually drew little marks showing me which gelato place on Via del Corso was worth the walk and which pizza al taglio spot near the Pantheon the locals actually go to. You know what else? The rooms are way quieter than you’d expect for being so close to everything. I was worried about noise since we’re talking about central Rome here, but the windows are solid, and honestly, by 11 PM even the fountain area settles down quite a bit.
The breakfast situation is pretty solid too – nothing fancy, but they’ve got proper espresso (not that weird hotel coffee), fresh cornetti, and this little selection of local cheeses and prosciutto. I actually ended up chatting with other guests most mornings, which doesn’t usually happen at bigger places. There was this couple from Australia who’d been coming back for three years straight, which sort of tells you something right there.
Here’s the thing about the location that the photos don’t really capture – yes, you’re incredibly close to the Trevi Fountain, but you’re also positioned perfectly for exploring the rest of the historic center on foot. The Spanish Steps are maybe a seven-minute walk, the Pantheon is ten minutes if you take your time, and there’s this little wine bar called Il Piccolo just around the corner that became my go-to spot for aperitivo. The whole neighborhood has this lived-in feel where you’ll see the same shopkeepers every day and actually start to feel like you belong somewhere instead of just passing through.
It’s not luxury – it’s a solid three-star that knows exactly what it is and does it really well. If you’re looking for a rooftop pool and marble bathrooms, this isn’t your place. But if you want to feel like you’re actually staying in Rome rather than just visiting it, well, this is exactly where you want to be.

The hotel was in an excellent location, spotless clean and staff were really nice and helpful.
What could be improved: The hotel room was very expensive for 3 nights, maybe if they included breakfast!Liked the location, not a fan of the rooftop bar – Terry from United States – 10 June 2025 (8/10)
The location was great.
What could be improved: The rooftop bar (open to the public) meant tourists entering and exiting the premises at all times.Good – Chris from United Kingdom – 20 May 2025 (7/10)

The crew is amazing especially Luca and Alex helped us a lot. It has rooftop directly seeing the Trevi fountain. I highly recommend to check it. The only disadvantage since it is in front of Trevi, there is noice coming from outside even at night

The location of the hotel was amazing. It is very close to everything. The front of the hotel is always crowded because of the Trevi Fountain. I really liked the staff and the cleanliness of the rooms. The rooftop restaurant is very good.
