Hotel Description

You know what surprised me about the Pinewood Hotel Rome? The name actually makes sense once you’re there – it’s tucked away in this quiet residential pocket of Aurelio where there are, honestly, quite a few pine trees lining the streets. I mean, you’re still in Rome, but Via della Pineta Sacchetti feels worlds away from the tourist chaos around the Colosseum.

The thing is, most people skip right over Aurelio when they’re planning their Roman holiday, but I actually think that’s exactly why this place works. You’re about a 15-minute metro ride from the Vatican (the Cornelia stop is your friend here), and getting to the historic center takes maybe 25 minutes on a good day. The hotel itself is this solid four-star property that feels more like a neighborhood fixture than a tourist trap – which, let’s be honest, is pretty rare in Rome these days. The lobby has that clean, modern Italian vibe without being sterile, and the staff actually remembers your name after the first day, which is… well, it’s refreshing. I stayed there during shoulder season in October, and check-in was smooth as anything. The rooms are what you’d expect from a well-run four-star – comfortable beds, decent-sized bathrooms, and here’s the kicker: it’s actually quiet at night. No honking Vespas at 2 AM, no drunk tourists stumbling down cobblestones. Just the occasional rustle of those pine trees I mentioned.

What really sold me on the place was the breakfast situation – they do this proper Italian spread with fresh cornetti and solid coffee, but they also throw in some international options that don’t feel like an afterthought. The dining area opens onto this little terrace where you can actually hear birds in the morning, which sounds cheesy but trust me, after a few days of Roman street noise, it’s exactly what you need. The neighborhood itself is pretty authentic – there’s a fantastic little alimentari around the corner where the owner will slice your prosciutto paper-thin and recommend wines like you’re family. Walking to the nearby Mercato Trionfale (about 10 minutes if you don’t mind a gentle uphill stroll) becomes this daily ritual that makes you feel less like a tourist and more like someone who just happens to be living in Rome for a while. Sure, the hotel’s 7.8 rating might not scream “luxury,” but honestly? It screams “this place knows what it’s doing.” The minor downsides are pretty minor – the WiFi can be spotty in some rooms, and if you’re someone who needs to be within walking distance of every major sight, this might feel too removed. But if you want to experience Rome like someone who actually lives here, while still having a proper hotel to retreat to, the Pinewood hits that sweet spot perfectly.

Reviews

  • Superb – Sebastian from Poland – 22 March 2025 (9/10)

Average size, but comfortable and clean room, bed and pillows were very comfortable, everything needed was in the room at its place. Friendly staff, maybe dinning room service should be a bit quiet when cleaning tables and bringing plates back to the kitchen. Was noisy. Coffee maker should prepare coffee drinks from ground (bean) coffee not from Nescafe powder – gosh! This is Italy – home of taste and elegance. Reach and tasty breakfast, an extended choice of food. Drink bar and restaurant at hotel. Table reservation in restaurant recommended. Hotel situated in nice area, Sacchett Pinetai park opposite, green and pleasant place with nice view on St. Peter's Dome. Bus stop at the hotel, good coonection to city center. Supermarket 5 mins walk. Very nice place, come back again for sure.

What could be improved: No complaints

  • Superb – Paul from Jersey – 11 February 2025 (9/10)

Used this hotel for a 'boys' (aged 48-62) trip to see the 6 nations match and more. Comfortable rooms with nice beds and power showers. Really good central location outside of the main hub with easy access to buses and metro. Staff were excellent all round with the people manning the reception deserving special recognition for their helpfullness and assistance.

  • Suitable Location with parking in next door lot within an hour of sights by bus or walking. – Kirsty from Australia – 29 January 2025 (8/10)

Breakfast was good. Varied food options and plenty of food. Cappuccino machine that made ok coffee.

  • Cozy hotel room a little outside of Rome and a good parking space. – Michael from Sweden – 30 August 2024 (9/10)

Very comfy bed and cozy room. Perfect for us in groups. The parking space was very good and safe. It is located a little ourside of Rome but it was very well connected by bus around 10-15 mins travel

What could be improved: Not a big deal but staff were little grumpy. Otherwise nothing to complain about

  • Superb – Mikhail from Russia – 23 July 2024 (9/10)

    Very nice stuff. Quite convinient

  • Great hotel. Clean and tidy. good staff. Rooms on the small side. – Matthew from United Kingdom – 22 July 2024 (9/10)

Rooms are very clen and cleaning staff do very good job each day of making beds and cleaning. We went in July when it was very hot, and the rom air conditioning was fantastic. Room wasn't set up correctly when we arrived but reception helped on night one with this and then ensure it was corrected for the remainder of the trip. reception staff were very friendly and helpful to advise and help resolve holiday issues (not hotel related).

What could be improved: Rooms are quite small so difficult to navigate a little with two suitcases. Location to Rome centre is quite distant and metro is 10 minutes walk away.

  • Wonderful stay – Benjamin from France – 27 May 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: The breakfast ! At least real coffee and real orange juice.

  • Recommended. – Zsófia from Hungary – 4 April 2024 (9/10)

The location is very good, metro A is nearby the hotel. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable. Staff was nice.

What could be improved: The breakfast was the same every morning so its kinda boring but its good.

  • Friendly and very helpful staff… – Viana from United Kingdom – 22 November 2023 (9/10)

    Very good choices..

What could be improved: Served the purpose for our visit

  • Good – Miška from Slovakia – 28 October 2023 (7/10)

What could be improved: One day there was no hot water. The hotel sesnt compensation to the account
