Petra Apartments Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Petra Apartments on Via Marco Aurelio, you immediately get that feeling you’re staying somewhere special. This four-star property sits right in the thick of things — I mean, you’re literally in ancient Rome here. The building itself has this understated elegance that doesn’t try too hard, which honestly feels refreshing after seeing so many over-the-top hotel lobbies around the city.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about staying near the Colosseum — most places either cost a fortune or feel like tourist traps. Petra Apartments somehow manages to avoid both pitfalls while putting you within walking distance of basically everything that matters. You can actually see the Colosseum from some windows, and the Palatine Hill is right there when you step outside. What I really appreciated was how the street itself feels authentically Roman, not like some sanitized tourist corridor. There’s a little café around the corner where locals grab their morning espresso, and you know what? That matters more than you’d think.
The Apartment Experience
The apartment I stayed in felt more like borrowing a friend’s well-appointed place than checking into a hotel. Each unit has its own character — mine had these gorgeous high ceilings and original details that reminded me this building has stories to tell. The kitchen was actually functional (not just for show), which came in handy when I wanted to grab fresh ingredients from the nearby market and make a simple dinner. The living area gave me space to spread out after long days of sightseeing, something you definitely don’t get in most Rome hotels.
Practical Comforts
Look, after walking around ancient ruins all day, you want a place that just works — and this place delivers. The air conditioning actually keeps things cool (trust me, this isn’t guaranteed everywhere in Rome), and the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every five minutes. I particularly loved having a proper sitting area where I could plan the next day’s adventures without being cramped on a bed. The bathrooms are modern and well-designed, though not huge — but honestly, who spends their Rome vacation in the bathroom anyway?
Why Guests Love It
That 9.5 rating isn’t just numbers on a screen — you feel it the moment you settle in. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work, offering local recommendations that go beyond the obvious tourist spots. Couples especially seem drawn to this place, and I can see why — there’s something romantic about having your own little Roman hideaway steps from the Forum. The combination of authentic location, comfortable accommodations, and that feeling of living like a local (even temporarily) creates something pretty special. When you’re paying Rome prices anyway, getting this level of location and comfort feels like you’ve actually found a gem rather than just another place to sleep.
To book a hotel in Rome during spring blossoms, visitors plan ahead to pair Trastevere trattorias with Borghese picnics.

A lovely apartment very near to the Colosseum. Clean, modern and really nice. Very comfortable bed. There are many cafes and shops in the area. The apartment is in a residential building, and it gives you that nice extra feeling of being among the locals. Good value for money
John from Australia (10/10)
The apartment had everything you need. Small amounts of tea and coffee. Dishwashing soap and washing machine tablet. It felt like home. A guide book on Rome was useful and suggestions on local restaurants was very useful

This is a spacious and luxuriously appointed apartment in a convenient location called Celio, close to the Colloseum and a 12 min walk to Via Del Corso, but quiet at night. We stayed here for 8 nights and loved everything about it. The large dining table, the well appointed kitchen with Miele appliances, the heated floors, the airy balcony, the 2 bathrooms, the lounge room.
Darya, the manager met us at check in, onboarded us, and was attentive to everything we asked, from the apartment to local tips of all sorts.
The area is full of great restaurants and gelaterias. But if you're like us, having an apartment means you can buy from 2 local supermarkets and cook and eat meals at home.
The location is also in a safe, upscale neighbourhood, despite being so close to the hoards of people converging on.the monuments nearby.
What's nearby? The Colloseum, the Forum, Trajan's Markets, Circus Maximus and a 20 min walk to the former Jewish quarter and Trastevere.
Stay here!! It's wonderful.Gabrielle from Australia (9/10)
