Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about the Oriana Homèl Roma? Walking up to it on Via di San Claudio, I almost missed it entirely – it’s tucked into this quiet side street in the Spanish Steps area, but honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. The entrance is understated in that effortlessly elegant Roman way, and once you’re inside, you realize you’ve found something that feels more like a well-kept secret than a typical tourist hotel.

The location is actually brilliant if you know Rome at all. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the Spanish Steps (I timed it because I’m that person), but you’re on this peaceful little street that most of the selfie-stick crowds never discover. I mean, you can slip out in the morning, grab proper espresso at the bar around the corner – not the tourist trap stuff – and you’re back before most hotels have even started serving breakfast. The rooms have this contemporary Roman style that doesn’t try too hard, if that makes sense. Clean lines, good lighting, and the kind of marble accents that remind you you’re in Italy without beating you over the head with it. What I really appreciated was the attention to sound – the windows actually block out the city noise, which is no small feat in Rome.

Here’s the thing about staying in the Spagna district that guidebooks don’t always mention: you’re positioned perfectly for both the obvious tourist stuff and the actual Roman experience. Sure, you can hit Trinità dei Monti and the designer shops on Via del Corso, but you’re also walking distance from places like Ginger for aperitivo (locals actually go there) and you can easily wander into Trastevere for dinner without dealing with the metro. The staff at Oriana seemed to get this balance too – they’ll point you toward the Pantheon, but they’ll also tell you which gelato place to skip and which tiny osteria doesn’t take reservations but is worth the wait. Check-in was smooth, none of that awkward hovering around the lobby situation, and they actually had decent recommendations that weren’t just the usual tourist circuit. The 9.1 rating makes sense when you add it all up – it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in Rome, but it nails the things that matter when you’re actually living in a city for a few days rather than just passing through.

This property was perfectly located to walk just about everywhere. We loved that it was an apartment, but had a reception desk which could hold our luggage. They were welcoming and gave us restaurant recommendations. It was very easy to check in and out. The apartment was bright and spacious and very clean with a comfortable bed. We were on the 5th floor and they had two small, but very modern elevators. Oriana is one block in from Via del Corso and close to many restaurants and shopping, yet it is not on the main street, so it really was a perfect location. We walked from Termini which took about half an hour, but the Spanish Steps Metro Station was an easy 10 minute walk also.
