Hotel Description
You know what’s funny about Rome? Everyone talks about staying near the big sites, but honestly, the real magic happens when you’re tucked away on one of those impossibly narrow streets where locals actually live. That’s exactly what you get at Oliviero – this apartment hotel sits on Vicolo del Governo Vecchio, which sounds fancy but is basically a charming little side street that most tourists rush past on their way to Piazza Navona.
I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from all that tourist chaos at Navona – the street performers, overpriced cafés, the works – but step into this building and it’s like entering someone’s well-kept secret. The whole setup feels more like staying at a design-conscious Italian friend’s place than a hotel. The apartments have this lived-in elegance that you just can’t fake, with proper kitchens (not those sad mini-fridges), comfortable beds that don’t feel like cardboard, and bathrooms where you can actually move around. What really got me though was how quiet it stays at night – you’d think being so central would mean constant noise, but these old Roman buildings have thick walls that actually work.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in Rome rather than just visiting it. There’s this little alimentari around the corner where the owner remembers your face after the second visit, and you’ll find yourself walking past the same neighborhood cats every morning on your way to get coffee. The whole Governo Vecchio area has this authentic Roman residential vibe – you’ll see nonnas hanging laundry from their windows and hear actual conversations in Italian echoing off the stone walls. Plus (and this is crucial), you can easily walk to Trastevere for dinner, hit up Campo de’ Fiori for morning market runs, or even stroll to the Pantheon when you’re feeling touristy. The 8.7 rating makes total sense – it’s not trying to be some luxury palace, but it nails everything that actually matters when you’re exploring a city like Rome. Just don’t expect a concierge desk or room service – this is more about having a proper home base where you can spread out your maps, plan your next day’s adventures, and feel like you’re actually living in the heart of the Eternal City.

Awesome stay and very convenient to everything – Jhobal from United States – 26 June 2025 (10/10)
Very close to two grocery stores, taxi stand, bus stop and restaurants. Two bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms was perfect. WiFi was excellent. AC units in bedroom and living room
Well done Alessandro ! – Yossef from Australia – 1 May 2025 (10/10)
Meet and greet was great. Host Alessandro was AMAZING !!!
Location is the best with 3 minutes walk to piazza navona and Heaps of restaurants at the end of the street
place is big and lovely
What could be improved: the apartment is in the basement so not much natural lightsGreat place in the heart of Rome. – Stefania from Spain – 26 March 2025 (10/10)
The apartment is more that standard furnished. It has everything you need for a perfect stay. Fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, clothes iron. Apartment is clean and location is unbeatable. However in case you dont like to be in closed spaces – maybe this place is not for you as it is under the street level so you don't really get to see outside. For me it worked out as a perfect hidden spot where I could enjoy my days off and be in the middle of Rome. As well the very good supermarket is just a minute walk and laundry is 20meter far. I will be back for sure!
Fantastic – Ron from Israel – 25 March 2025 (10/10)
The Owner was super accommodating when we had a medical problem and needed to stay another night. Excellent communication. He, and his assistant, helped us with our medical problem with advise, offered to physically help us and more.
What could be improved: The building elevator was not working. 2 flights of stairs.Exceptional – Jenny from Greece – 5 March 2025 (10/10)
The accommodation was amazing! Clean, warm, and fully equipped with all the necessary amenities. We were four friends, and it was very spacious and comfortable. Antonio welcomed us and not only explained everything in detail about the apartment but also gave us a whole list of restaurants, cafés, and sights in Rome—places you wouldn’t even find in tourist guides. He was always available and responded immediately to any questions we had.
The location couldn't have been better. It was central, and everything was within walking distance. The price, compared to the quality of the accommodation, was almost too good to be true. Until we arrived at the apartment, we were a bit anxious because the price was quite low for that specific area, but it turned out to be an absolute gem!Sub-basement in a good location – Offer from Italy – 8 February 2025 (8/10)
The apartment is in a central location and well-equipped with appliances.
The bed is comfortable.
We had very good communication with the host.
The internet connection was good.
What could be improved: The apartment is underground with very little natural light from a small window in the bedroom.
This window, however, is not well insulated for noise, and the street noise penetrates the bedroom.A hidden gem in the ❤️ of Rome – Cristina from Italy – 19 December 2024 (10/10)
My stay was exceptional!
I had a warm and friendly welcome from Alessandro and Antonio, the hosts, who were super helpful, their evening restaurant recommendation was superb.
The apartment was spacious and clean and the bed beyond comfortable.
It is such a lovely flat, it has everything you need in a great location.
Will definitely be back!Superb – Alexandra from Romania – 10 June 2025 (9/10)
The location of the apartment is excellent and both Antonio and Alessandro were very helpful and welcoming. The design of the apartment is done with care and attention to the guest needs and the split level sleeping/day area is great for a familly or group of friends.Overall a great choice for someone looking for accomodation in an ideal location for visiting the sites.
What could be improved: The apartment is located in the lower floor/basement so there is a bit of humidity, however the hosts provided AC to help with minimizing the impact. For a short stay , its ok.Superb – Yoon from United States – 5 May 2025 (9/10)
The house was interesting like medieval vibes
Superb – Roberto from Netherlands – 19 January 2025 (9/10)
Mostly Everything
What could be improved: The pillows very bad
