Hotel Description
So I stayed at NH Roma Villa Carpegna last spring, and honestly? It’s one of those places that surprises you in the best way. You know how most Roman hotels are either right in the chaos of the center or completely disconnected from everything? This one actually gets the balance right. It’s tucked away in the Aurelio neighborhood – which, I mean, sounds fancy but it’s really just this quiet residential area that feels authentically Roman without the tourist madness.
The hotel itself sits on Via Pio IV, and here’s the thing that most people don’t realize until they get there: you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Vatican Museums’ back entrance. Not the main entrance where everyone queues for hours, but the one locals use. The staff mentioned this almost as an afterthought during check-in, but it’s actually brilliant if you’ve got early morning tickets. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel – there’s a little alimentari across the street where the owner remembers your face after two days, and the morning sounds are church bells and coffee machines instead of tour buses.
What I really loved about the place was how it feels like they actually thought about what travelers need. The rooms are spacious by Roman standards (seriously, you can open your suitcase without doing gymnastics), and the beds are properly firm – none of that soft European mattress situation that leaves you feeling like you slept in a hammock. The breakfast spread is solid, though skip the American-style pancakes and go for the cornetti and local honey. There’s this little courtyard area that’s perfect for evening wine – they don’t advertise it much, but you can grab a bottle from the bar and just sit out there. Gets lovely light around sunset.
The 8.3 rating makes sense to me because it’s not trying to be something it’s not. It’s not dripping with Roman imperial decor or trying to recreate some fantasy version of Italy. It’s just a really well-run, comfortable place that happens to be in a spot that works. You can walk to Cipro metro in about eight minutes, which gets you to the Spanish Steps in fifteen. But honestly, some of my best Rome moments happened just wandering around this neighborhood – there’s this amazing pizza al taglio place on Via Baldo degli Ubaldi that I never would have found if I’d stayed in Trastevere with everyone else.
The only thing I’d warn about is that if you’re someone who needs to be stumbling distance from nightlife, this isn’t your spot. Aurelio goes to bed early, and that’s kind of the point. But if you want to experience Rome like you’re living there temporarily rather than just passing through – waking up to the sound of shutters opening instead of crowds, having a neighborhood bar where they know your coffee order – then this place gets it right.

Good – Sarah from United Kingdom – 23 June 2025 (7/10)
Staff super friendly great pool
What could be improved: Breakfast lacking , menu overall in restaurant could be better was very slow. The management are charging for Balinese beds around the pool . I don’t think this is acceptable in a hotel better not to have if they are extra for hotel guests. For day visitors ok but not hotel guests.Great option for a mid-priced hotel in Rome with a beautiful swimming pool. – Lara from New Zealand – 15 June 2025 (9/10)
Fabulous pool, excellent buffet breakfast.
The rooms are simple but clean, comfortable and everything you need.
What could be improved: Our air conditioning wasn’t very cold, they sent someone to fix it but the room never really got below 25 degrees (which was actually okay as it helped us acclimatise to the heat!).
It’s a little bit out of the centre, but worth it for a lovely pool and cheaper price.Good stay – Nour from Canada – 11 June 2025 (8/10)
Location next to the congress exhibition center but a bit from the city center. Clean and spacious rooms.
What could be improved: A bit far from bus and metro stationsSuperb – Romina from United Kingdom – 1 June 2025 (9/10)

Over 750 euro for two nightsLikeable Stay – Anne from Luxembourg – 5 October 2024 (7/10)
Apart from the location of the hotel, everything was to our liking and statisfaction. The staff was friendly and helpful and the room was very clean and tidy. I really recommend this hotel for people that are not dependant on public transportation.
What could be improved: The hotel is located outside of the city centre of Rome. In my opinion, this doesn't really shine through the recommandations people left for the resort. As we didn't really check how far it was, we were surprised to see that we had a walk of 1,1 km to the metro station. Let me tell you it was really exhausting to walk these distances continually after a long day in the city center. Also, bare in mind that you can't just pop into the hotel to grab something or just rest for a little while, which became quite irritating after a few days. To sum up, this is entirely our fault and not the hotels, just thought it was important to point it out.Superb – Joanach from Greece – 4 October 2024 (9/10)
The rooms were nice, breakfast and pool were fantastic
What could be improved: the restaurant was expensive for what it offeredSuperb – Anton from Croatia – 30 September 2024 (9/10)
All good, stayed just for one night.
