Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed in my share of Rome hotels, and honestly, the Navona Colors Hotel is one of those places that gets everything right without trying too hard. You know what I mean? It’s tucked away on Via Dell’Orso – and if you know this little street, you’ll understand why that’s actually perfect. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the Pantheon (I timed it), but you’re not dealing with the constant tourist chaos right outside your window. The building itself has that weathered Roman charm – thick walls that actually keep the street noise down, which is sort of a miracle in this part of the city.
The thing about this place is that it feels like someone who actually lives in Rome designed it. The colors they’ve chosen (hence the name, I guess) aren’t those generic beige hotel tones – there’s this warm terracotta in the lobby that reminds you exactly where you are, and the rooms have these deep blues and greens that somehow make even the smaller spaces feel cozy rather than cramped. I mean, let’s be honest, you’re not getting palatial suites at a 3-star in central Rome, but the rooms are thoughtfully laid out. The bathrooms are surprisingly modern too – decent water pressure, which anyone who’s traveled in Europe knows isn’t always a given.
What really won me over was the staff’s approach to helping you navigate the neighborhood. They don’t just hand you a generic city map – they’ll tell you that the best carbonara is actually at that little place around the corner on Via dei Soldati (not the touristy spot everyone recommends), or that if you want to avoid the Pantheon crowds, go early morning or right before sunset. The front desk guy – I think his name was Marco – drew me a little walking route that hit three churches most tourists never see, all within a ten-minute radius. That’s the kind of local knowledge you can’t Google.
The breakfast isn’t going to blow your mind, but it’s solid Italian basics – proper espresso, fresh cornetti, decent prosciutto. What I appreciated was that they serve it until 10:30, which gives you time to actually enjoy your morning instead of rushing down by 9 AM like some places demand. And here’s a practical thing that matters more than you’d think – the WiFi actually works throughout the building, including in the rooms on the upper floors. I’ve learned not to take that for granted.
The location really is the star here though. You’re walking distance to everything that matters – Piazza Navona, obviously, but also the quiet side streets where you’ll find those perfect little wine bars that locals actually frequent. Via del Governo Vecchio is right there for vintage shopping, and you can easily walk to Trastevere for dinner without needing to figure out Roman public transport. During my stay in October, I never once felt like I was staying in a tourist bubble, which is pretty remarkable for a hotel this close to the major sights. The whole area comes alive in the evening when the day-trippers head back to their cruise ships, and you get to experience what Rome actually feels like when it’s not performing for visitors.

The room was charming and 2 of the staff members were so welcoming. One staff member was not; he seemed as though it was an imposition to help.

What could be improved: Nothing we liked it all.Loved the location & would stay again! – Gail from United States – 28 May 2025 (9/10)
Location is great with walking distance to Vatican City, Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps, Piazza Navona, Pantheon.
Two nearby restaurants we enjoyed- Old Bear & L'Orso 80. We had room 303 and it was a nice size with a desk & mini fridge. There is a small elevator to get to the upper rooms. They stored our bags prior to check in & had our bags in our room at checkin. We took private transfer to get to this hotel since we had large bags. Takes about an hour from the airport due traffic & tight windy roads to the hotel.
What could be improved: Breakfast food is kind of tight to access in an L shape with the eggs & bacon in the corner. It can feel crowded with just 3 people getting food. There is a slope or slight ramp in the hallway on each floor that can surprise you if you are not aware. We lost our footing on it a few times. Some places might add red or yellow markings to bring your attention to it. Near the main floor elevator there was a sewage smell. Rooms on main floor might be noisy as they are near the breakfast room, elevator & a bathroom. We learned the table on an outside terrace in the online photos is for the upper 4th floor apartment only. There are a few tables outside on the street to sit at for breakfast, but it was a little cool the mornings we were there. They may be on a bit of a slant too.Good location, clean room – Hawinkels from South Africa – 28 May 2025 (8/10)
Location
What could be improved: Shower difficult to access – have to step in over high bath
