Hotel Description

You know what? I’ve walked past My Spanishsteps probably a dozen times over the years without really noticing it – which, honestly, is exactly what you want in this touristy corner of Rome. The entrance on Via Gregoriana is pretty understated, tucked into one of those gorgeous ochre buildings that makes you feel like you’re in a movie. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Spanish Steps, but here’s the thing everyone gets wrong: you don’t actually want to be right on that chaos. Via Gregoriana runs parallel to all the madness, so you get the location without the street performers practicing at 7 AM.

The inside surprised me – and I’m pretty jaded about Roman hotels at this point. There’s this sort of elegant restraint that feels authentically Italian rather than trying too hard to be boutique-y. The rooms have those tall ceilings you can’t fake and windows that actually open (thank god, because Roman summers are brutal). What really got me was how quiet it stays, even during August when the area’s crawling with tourists. The staff actually knows the neighborhood – like, they’ll tell you to hit Salumeria Focacci around the corner for the best supplì rather than pointing you toward some overpriced tourist trap on Via del Corso.

Here’s what makes this place work: it’s run by people who understand that Rome is overwhelming enough without your hotel adding to the stress. Check-in was refreshingly normal – no pretentious lobby ritual, just genuine helpfulness. The breakfast situation is solid (they do proper espresso, obviously), and honestly, the whole vibe feels like staying at your well-connected Roman friend’s place if that friend had excellent taste and professional housekeeping. You’re close enough to walk to Trevi Fountain when you feel obligated, but far enough that you can duck back for a proper siesta without fighting through crowds. The Metro’s right there at Spagna if you need to get across the city, and – this matters more than you’d think – there are actual Romans living on this street, not just Airbnb units. It gives the whole area a different energy. I’d absolutely stay here again, which is saying something because Rome has a way of making you want to try somewhere new every time.
