You know what caught me off guard about Moma Domus? The moment you walk through those doors on Piazza di San Maria Maggiore, you realize you’re not staying in just another boutique hotel – you’re basically living inside a piece of Rome’s layered history. I mean, the Golden Keys Collection part of the name isn’t just fancy marketing speak; this place actually feels like someone’s incredibly well-curated Roman apartment that they’ve decided to share with travelers who appreciate the real thing.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like a local but still be close to everything that matters. You’re right in Monti, which – if you’ve never been – is sort of Rome’s answer to a neighborhood that’s cool without trying too hard. The basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore is literally your neighbor (hence the piazza name), and you can walk to the Colosseum in about ten minutes, but here’s the thing most people don’t realize: you’re also surrounded by these tiny streets packed with family-run trattorias and wine bars that Romans actually go to. I discovered this little spot called Al Tre Scalini just two blocks down Via Panisperna where the locals drink their morning coffee, and honestly, that’s worth the stay alone. The rooms themselves have this understated elegance – nothing flashy, but everything feels intentional. The beds are actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how many Roman hotels get this wrong), and the bathrooms have proper water pressure, which, trust me, matters after a day of walking on cobblestones.

What really sets this place apart is how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re in the heart of everything. The piazza isn’t one of those tourist-packed squares that stays rowdy until 2 AM – it’s got more of a residential feel once the sun goes down. The staff knows the neighborhood inside and out, too. When I mentioned wanting to find good cacio e pepe that wasn’t a tourist trap, the front desk guy (I think his name was Marco?) sent me to this place on Via del Boschetto that I never would have found otherwise. Check-in was smooth, no weird hidden fees, and they actually stored my luggage without making it feel like a huge favor. The 8.7 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Rome, but it nails all the things that actually matter when you’re exploring a city like this. If you’re the type who wants to duck into a real neighborhood at the end of the day instead of some sanitized hotel district, this is your spot.

  Gorgeous apartment in Rome near Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore and walking distance to Rome Termini Station. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, furnished with Italian style, we also made use of a sofa bed. There is a washing machine and lift. Just a little worn in the kitchen area. Plenty of restaurants around this area. Highly recommend

  Location for our purpose was excellent. Train station and bus service was close and convenient. Lots of cafes and restaurants just outside the door and streets surrounding the property. Grocery store across the street. About 15 – 20 minute walk to historic centre of Rome
  
  What could be improved: The even though the garbage and recycling cans were in the courtyard, the courtyard was clean, but it did smell of garbage. The smell did not reach the room. Sometimes, in early morning, the collection of glass from the restaurants was loud.

  What could be improved: Shortly after booking we received a notification that the apartment was occupied. After contacting booking.com the owner said that it was not occupied after all. Upon arrival we were placed in another, smaller apartment. Be careful when booking this apartment and in case of problems contact booking.com.

  What could be improved: the blankets were covered in blood, and the heating was not on. We found the apartment cold. After calling the owner, he had us turn on the heating over the phone. It's terrible when it's cold outside, you enter the apartment expecting to be warm and everything is frozen. You can't even cover yourself with a blanket because it's dirty and covered in blood.Also, the water was often cut off during bathing.

  emplacement idéal devant Ste Marie Majeure. Jolie décoration, équipements parfaits, lits très confortables, super ! Hôte aux petits soins. Supermarché à 5 minutes ouvert jusqu'à 22h. Proximité de la gare de Termini. Thé et Capsules de café dans la cuisine, c'était parfait ! Nous recommanderons à nos amis !
