Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about this place? It’s actually in one of those neighborhoods where Romans live and work, not just where tourists take selfies. The address says Piazza del Viminale, which honestly sounds way more intimidating than it is – it’s basically a quiet square tucked behind the main chaos of Repubblica, but you’re still walking distance from everything that matters.

The flat itself has that clean, Instagram-worthy vibe without feeling sterile. I mean, it’s modern in all the right ways – good shower pressure, decent Wi-Fi, furniture that doesn’t look like it was picked up from a hotel liquidation sale. The windows are actually soundproofed pretty well, which matters because Rome can get loud at weird hours. I stayed here in May and barely heard the morning traffic, though you’ll catch some street sounds if you keep the windows open (which you’ll want to do because the evening breeze is lovely). The kitchen setup is solid if you’re the type who likes to grab groceries from the markets – there’s a great little alimentari just down Via del Viminale that the owner pointed out during check-in.

What really sold me on the location was how it sits right on the edge of Monti. You can duck into the neighborhood’s winding streets for dinner – seriously, some of the best cacio e pepe I had was at a tiny place called Checchino that’s maybe a five-minute walk away. But when you want to hit the major sites, you’re not dealing with the tourist crush that comes with staying right next to the Colosseum. The Repubblica metro stop is close enough that you don’t think twice about hopping on, and honestly, walking to places like the Pantheon or Trevi Fountain becomes part of the experience rather than a chore. The host mentioned that the area gets pretty quiet after dinner service winds down, which turned out to be true – by 10 PM, you’re mostly hearing the occasional Vespa rather than tour groups.

The 8.7 rating makes sense to me. It’s not trying to be a luxury hotel, but everything works the way it should, and there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that feels like a real Roman apartment rather than a generic rental. Check-in was smooth (they actually showed up when they said they would), and the place was cleaner than I expected. My only real complaint was that the coffee maker was one of those finicky moka pots that takes forever if you don’t know what you’re doing, but there’s an excellent café literally across the street, so it ended up being a non-issue.

What could be improved: OBNOXIOUS OLD LADY NEIGHBOUR

The place is great. The rest of the amenities is as described. Emmanuel and Junio are great hosts and are very helpful in all our comcerns and queries. Emmanuel even personally came when we had conduction stove usage difficulties. The place has basic needs like salt, vinegar, sugar, coffee, pepper. They even had aluminum foils. The appliances are new and modern. Towels, soaps, and linens were abundant. Heaters were ok. Abundant hot water. Washing machine is good. The place per se is 5/5 stars for me.

But what irritates me the most is the adjacent or old lady neighbour who complained about our noise and described our stay as "them living in hell". In the handbook for guests, it explicitly says that we refrain from disturbing our neighbours especially after 10:00 pm. We are well educated people who put high regard in keeping away from disturbing others and we definitely understand that. By 10:00 pm, we are already settled down minimizing excessive noise. Before 10:00 pm, as travellers we conduct our business with proper decorum befitting as guests of a rental apartment. The question in my mind is that, "Are the walls made of thin plywoods and the floors are so thin like in the shanties that inevitable noises like footsteps and conversations of regular low decibels are heard in their place? One more thing, on several days we had late starts due to jet lags and we settle down early. So what is her beef? Are they just plain bigots who refuse rental businesses in their buildings hence the descrimination? One more thing, we also hear thumping noises anytime especially at night but do we complain?

Another question is "What does "early morning" constitute among Romans or her specifically? Only once in our stay did we leave before 6am, as our schedule is laid back trying to enjoy a Roman Holiday (Christmas). Are tourists not welcome in Rome?

In 2019, we the tourists contributed 10.6 % of your GDP.
