Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the address on Via di San Telesforo, I had to double-check my booking. The Aurelio district isn’t exactly where most tourists end up, and that’s actually what makes Merulana Suite S.Peter such a find. You’re tucked away in a proper Roman neighborhood where the morning sounds are more about locals heading to work than tour groups shuffling past your window.

The place has this quietly confident vibe that you get with well-run four-star properties – nothing flashy, but everything just works. The suites (and they really are suites, not just rooms with a sitting area awkwardly crammed in) feel like someone’s stylish Roman apartment rather than a hotel room. I mean, there’s actual counter space in the kitchenette, which sounds trivial until you’re trying to make morning coffee without clearing off the bathroom sink. The 9.4 rating starts making sense when you realize it’s all these little details they’ve gotten right. The shower pressure is proper, the Wi-Fi doesn’t drop every five minutes, and – this might sound weird – but the pillows are actually comfortable, not those rock-hard European things you sometimes get.

What really sold me on this place, though, is the location once you understand it. Yes, you’re about a twenty-minute walk to Vatican City (which is probably why they put S.Peter in the name), but here’s the thing – you’re also stumbling distance from some absolutely fantastic neighborhood trattorias that haven’t figured out they should be charging tourist prices. There’s this little place around the corner where the owner’s mother still makes the ragu, and you’ll never find it unless you’re staying somewhere like this. The Metro connection isn’t bad either – Cornelia station gets you into the center without the hassle, though honestly, I found myself walking more than I expected because the streets around here are just pleasant. It’s Rome, but breathable Rome, you know? The kind of area where you can actually imagine living rather than just surviving as a tourist. If you’re the type who likes to feel like you’re experiencing a city rather than just checking off monuments, this is your spot.

  The owners were very thoughtful and made you feel welcome and cared for. The shower was amazing with back jets and the apartment had all you could need. There was a lovely welcome gift and the owners were very generous. The balcony view of St Peter’s was stunning and we enjoyed relaxing on the chairs on the balcony after a long day. There was a lovely restaurant below which catered for my family’s gluten intolerance and the owners were very accommodating. I highly recommend this apartment.

  Apartment is just minutes away from the Vatican and S.Pietro Train Station. Bus connection is also few steps away. Airconditioned rooms with functional kitchen, good for cost saving. Spacious apartment with great view of the vatican from the balcony. They offered welcome pasta & wine. We enjoyed having breakfast with a view. 5th floor with a lift. The contact person reacheable via Whatsapp.

  Fantastic very attentive host. Well kept and clean appartment. Great location and surprisingly quiet for centre of Rome. 5 min walk from Vatican. Pietro (the host) made our stay in Rome memorable. Thanks for the suggestions of fantastic restaurants in Rome.
