Hotel Description
So I’ve stayed at the Mercure Roma Cinecittà a few times now, and honestly, it’s become my go-to spot when I don’t want to deal with the chaos of central Rome but still need decent access to everything. The thing is, it’s tucked away in this surprisingly quiet corner of the Appio Latino district – you know, where actual Romans live rather than just tourists stumbling around with gelato.
The location is actually pretty clever if you think about it. You’re literally a stone’s throw from Cinecittà Studios (hence the name), which is cool if you’re into film history, but more importantly, you’re right on the metro line that’ll get you to the Colosseum in about 15 minutes. I mean, try finding a decent 4-star hotel in Termini or near the Spanish Steps that doesn’t cost a fortune and isn’t constantly buzzing with tour groups at 6 AM. The neighborhood around here feels authentic – there’s this little bakery on Via Tuscolana where the locals grab their morning cornetti, and the evening passeggiata actually includes families with kids, not just people checking things off their bucket lists.
What really sold me on this place, though, is how they’ve managed to feel upscale without being stuffy. The rooms are spacious by European standards – I can actually open my suitcase without having to climb over it to get to the bathroom. The beds are proper comfortable (not those rock-hard Italian mattresses you sometimes get), and the air conditioning actually works, which trust me, matters in July. The staff genuinely seems to care about getting you sorted, whether that’s restaurant recommendations or helping figure out which bus goes where. I’ve noticed they remember return guests too, which is a nice touch. The breakfast spread is solid – nothing fancy, but they do a proper espresso and the pastries are fresh. One small thing that bugs me is the elevator can be slow during busy periods, but honestly, that’s pretty typical for Rome hotels.
Here’s what I really appreciate: parking is available and affordable, which is basically a miracle in Rome. The area is quiet at night – you’re not going to have drunk British tourists singing outside your window at 2 AM. And if you want to venture out for dinner, you’re in a real Roman neighborhood where a good meal costs what you’d pay for a mediocre appetizer in the centro storico. The 8.6 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the Hassler or the St. Regis, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises.

When Visiting Rome, Consider Cinecittà for your stay with Mercure. – Jon from United States – 4 March 2025 (10/10)
Location to highway was important and a key factor was the parking as i had a rent a car. The proximity to the Metro was also important. Restaurant is exceptionally good. Wine selection and food was fantastic. This helps as you can be tired from your visit and want to relax with a meal close by. And breakfast is well worth it, too.
