Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Mecenate Apartment Fori Imperiali? It’s tucked away on Via Baccina in this maze of cobblestone streets that honestly feels like you’ve stumbled into a movie set. I mean, you’re literally staying in Monti – which locals will tell you is the real Rome, not the touristy chaos around the Trevi Fountain. The building itself has that weathered Roman charm where every stone seems to have a story, and when you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of “okay, this is actually special.”
The apartment setup works brilliantly because you get hotel-level service but with space to breathe. The rooms have these gorgeous high ceilings – typical Roman architecture – and the windows frame views that make you want to grab your camera constantly. What I loved most was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re right in the heart of everything. The thick walls do their job, and honestly, after walking around Rome all day, you’ll appreciate the peace. The furnishings hit that sweet spot between authentic Italian style and modern comfort – think rich fabrics and antique touches without feeling like you’re sleeping in a museum. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious too, which anyone who’s stayed in European city centers will appreciate.
But here’s the thing that really sets this place apart – the location is absolutely unbeatable if you want to experience Rome like someone who actually lives here. You can walk to the Colosseum in about five minutes, but more importantly, you’re surrounded by these incredible little trattorias and wine bars that most tourists never find. There’s this fantastic bakery just around the corner on Via del Boschetto where locals grab their morning cornetti – I ended up going there every single day. The whole Monti neighborhood has this bohemian vibe with vintage shops and artisan studios mixed in with ancient Roman ruins. You’ll find yourself wandering down these narrow streets discovering hidden courtyards and wondering how this area isn’t completely overrun with tour groups yet.
The staff clearly knows the neighborhood inside and out, and they’re genuinely helpful without being pushy about it. They’ll point you toward the good gelato spot (not the touristy one with the neon signs) and let you know which days the local market is worth visiting. Check-in was smooth, and they were flexible about timing, which matters when you’re dealing with flight delays and jet lag. The Wi-Fi actually works well – important if you’re trying to navigate Rome’s confusing bus system or make dinner reservations.
Is it perfect? Well, the stairs can be a bit much if you’re hauling heavy luggage, and like most Roman buildings, there’s no elevator. But honestly, that’s part of the authentic experience. You’re staying in a centuries-old building in one of Rome’s most atmospheric neighborhoods, walking distance from both ancient ruins and the city’s best contemporary culture. For the price point and that 8.5 rating, it delivers exactly what it promises – a genuine Roman experience without sacrificing comfort.

It was perfect for our needs! – Christina from United States – 23 June 2025 (10/10)
The proximity to all of the local sites was great. It was perfect for our family of 5. Our host was amazing and the staff were so helpful whenever we had a question.
What could be improved: The shower was very small.Great stay, shame we had to leave early due to a train strike but can highly recommend. – Sarah from United Kingdom – 19 June 2025 (9/10)
Fantastic location, near to everything, really good facilities, clean.
What could be improved: Is at the top of the building, three flights and no lift.Overall, we would definitely recommend it. – Angelina from Bulgaria – 22 April 2025 (10/10)
We booked the flat for 2 nights for 4 adults and 2 children. The flat was in a great condition and it had everything we needed (as advertised). The location is great – walking distance to many of the most popular sights, but also close to bus stops and the metro.
The host Michele was responsive and very helpful.
The only things you might want to consider before booking are that it is on the third floor with no lift and that the shower head is stationary and the shower cabin is relatively small. These are not an issue for most people but I thought it was worth mentioning. We had a fantastic stay, the place was very comfortable for a family of 5 😊 – Anne from United Kingdom – 10 April 2025 (9/10)
The location was amazing! So central and very quiet (apart from some building work outside). Staff came immediately when we informed them that the shower was blocked and it was fixed straight away, also they were super helpful for our late check in.
What could be improved: Some mould on ceiling in bathroomSuperb – Jana from Czech Republic – 2 February 2025 (9/10)
The apartment is situated literally 10 minutes on foot from the Colosseum. It was spotless clean and spacious enough to comfortably accommodate 5 people.
Great communication with the owner/manager and Michele who did our check-in.
Great location – we could explore Roma on foot.
Lovely restaurants, bistros and supermarkets only a few dozen meters away.Exceptional – Zhiwei from China – 23 November 2024 (10/10)
I had an amazing stay at this accommodation in Rome! The apartment was impeccably clean and tidy, and it was evident that great thought and care had gone into making it comfortable. The heating was excellent, which made our stay even cozier.
The host was incredibly helpful, allowing us to check in early and providing clear instructions, making the entire process smooth and hassle-free. They even provided extra umbrellas, which came in handy on rainy days—such a thoughtful touch!
Special thanks to Michele for his warm hospitality. From our first conversation, he was very friendly and welcoming, which added to the joy of our stay.
The location is unbeatable—just a short walk to the Colosseum! Downstairs, there’s a famous handmade pasta restaurant, which was both convenient and delicious. The surrounding area is quiet and peaceful, perfect for relaxation after a day of sightseeing.
Overall, we had a fantastic time, and I believe anyone choosing to stay here will have a delightful and memorable experience. Highly recommended!Perfect location, greeted by kind staff. 10/10 experience. – Tia from Australia – 8 November 2024 (10/10)
Perfect location! Heaps of space for 5 people.
Good stay for a short 1-2 day visit but bringing luggage up and down to and from third floor with kids was not easy. – Sweta from United States – 31 October 2024 (7/10)
We liked the location of the property. Staff was very nice, communicative, and helpful. Staff bright extra umbrellas for us. It was clean for the most part besides the mold in the shower.
Good for a very short stay in transit to somewhere else. Rooms were spacious and sofa bed was ready for us.
What could be improved: The shower was very small for a normal size person. It was a little moldy in the corners doors and ceiling. The climbing of three floors with 50 pound luggage is not easy. The balcony in front of the unit is useless as someone else’s kitchen window is there.
Kitchen is extremely small. Good for one person at a time.
Be sure to bring your own plug converters if traveling from US.Very good – Dana from Australia – 10 October 2024 (8/10)
Great central location. Kitchen and washing machine were very handy.
Great accommodation close to attractions and food – Dennis from Australia – 12 July 2024 (9/10)
Michael was great, offering lots of suggestions for things to do and places to eat. It was very easy to communicate with him after we became delayed to check in. The apartment was clean and conveniently located and as pictured. AC worked well.
