Margherita Suites Overview
Look, I’ll be honest with you – when I first walked up to Margherita Suites on Via Ottaviano, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages. The building itself is pretty typical for this part of Rome, sandwiched between a couple of cafes and what looked like a family-run gelato shop that I definitely hit up later that evening.
What really struck me about this place is how perfectly positioned it is if you’re actually trying to experience Rome like a human being rather than just tick off tourist boxes. I mean, sure, you’re close to the Vatican – about a 10-minute walk through these lovely tree-lined streets – but more importantly, you’re in Prati, which honestly feels like where actual Romans live and work. The morning I checked out, I grabbed espresso at this tiny bar around the corner where the barista was arguing with someone about football, and it felt completely authentic in a way that’s hard to find when you’re staying near the Colosseum. The suites themselves are… well, they’re suites, which matters more than you’d think when you’ve been living out of a suitcase for a week. Having separate spaces to spread out your stuff actually makes a huge difference. The decor is sort of modern-traditional Italian – nothing fancy, but everything feels clean and purposeful. My bathroom had this amazing rainfall shower that I may have used for embarrassingly long periods each morning.
Here’s the thing about the 7.3 rating – it’s probably spot-on if you’re expecting perfection, but I found myself really appreciating the small thoughtful touches. The front desk staff actually knew the neighborhood well enough to recommend this incredible little trattoria about three blocks away that wasn’t in any guidebook I’d seen. And when I mentioned I was trying to avoid the crowds at St. Peter’s, they told me exactly when to go (early morning, like 7:30 AM) and which entrance to use. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly, which honestly matters more than marble countertops when you’re trying to figure out train schedules. The only real downside was some street noise – Via Ottaviano isn’t exactly a quiet residential street, especially in the evenings when people are heading to dinner. But I’m a city person, so the sounds of actual Roman life happening outside my window felt more charming than annoying. Plus, you’re sleeping better after walking 15,000 steps through cobblestone streets anyway.
What I keep coming back to is how this place just… works. You can walk to the Vatican Museums without dealing with tourist trap restaurants for breakfast. You can hop on the metro at Ottaviano station literally two minutes away. But you’re also in a neighborhood where you can buy groceries, sit in a proper piazza with locals, and feel like you’re staying somewhere real rather than in some sanitized tourist bubble. For the price point, especially considering Rome’s hotel situation, Margherita Suites delivers exactly what it promises – nothing more, nothing less, but everything you actually need.

Reviews of Margherita Suites
Would go back to stay at Margherita Suites especially with only two people. – Roberta from United States – 1 May 2025 (8/10)
Great location, close to the Vatican and a Metro stop and felt very safe.
What could be improved: The room was small for three people.Value for money – good for a couple. For people on a budget or looking for a close location to the Vatican. – Elaine from Malta – 28 April 2025 (7/10)
The location is the best feature of this apartment. The neighbors in the building are also very nice. So for the price we paid I feel this was adequate. Also the free cappuccino and croissant from a near by coffee shop was much appreciated
What could be improved: The rooms are small we were 4 in a room. The shower needed a bit of fiddling. Some maintenance should take place.Great location with great AC – Heather from Germany – 1 July 2024 (8/10)
Nice and clean room. Comfortable bed and AC worked great! Happy to have that during the heat wave! Great location to the Vatican, Metro, and restaurants. Manager was easy to contact and made check in and check out very easy!
What could be improved: The AC unit leaked and there was some water damage on the wall. We pulled the beds over so our child wouldn’t get dripped on. Shower filled up with water and would pour over onto the floor. A little maintenance and this can be corrected.Very good – Bilal from Cyprus – 16 September 2022 (8/10)
Great location just across the street from the Vatican, near a metro station, restaurants, and shops.
The room was nice and convenient and the staff were helpful.
What could be improved: The water in the shower kept going from hot to cold every few seconds, the AC is a bit weak and there was no iron.overall, a good place to stay for visiting Rome. It’s convenient to visit many sightseeing sites. The hotel host is very – Nan from Belgium – 20 July 2022 (8/10)
location
What could be improved: the sound of AC and AC water dripping in the night can be disturbing for sleep, perhaps we are not used to sleep with AC.A good option, close to the train station. Comfortable, clean, spacious rooms. Attentive host. – Amy from Netherlands – 5 July 2025 (8/10)
It was comfortable, close to the train station.
The host left us water and a bottle of wine, which was appreciated.
What could be improved: The staff were a bit pushy to get a rating.Very good – Martin from Czech Republic – 22 May 2025 (8/10)
What could be improved: Web check-in suck
Best value of money – Barjoud from Syria – 14 January 2025 (6/10)
The easy location.. comfortable warm room.. helpful staff..
perfect for a short stay, accompanied our trip to rome well – Makayla from United States – 13 December 2024 (7/10)
Easy to access, in a good location, comfortable
What could be improved: location felt safe and pretty close to attractions however it was not as close to famous places as i had anticipatedClose – but not a hotel – Thuy from United States – 2 August 2024 (6/10)
Clean, but it felt like a hostel. We had 1 room with shared tiny common space. Overall, it was OK.
What could be improved: I felt it was a bit misleading since we booked with breakfast and I thought there were 24 hours receptionist – you get none of that.
