You know what hit me first about Mami’s place? The fact that you’re literally staying on a piazza in Trastevere – not some touristy square, but one of those quiet neighborhood ones where locals actually hang out. Piazza S.Apollonia feels like you’ve stumbled into someone’s living room, honestly. There’s this worn stone charm that photos never quite capture, and the apartment sits right there overlooking it all. I mean, when they say “private terrace,” they’re not kidding around – you’ve got your own little slice of Roman rooftop life happening up there.

The whole setup feels authentically Roman in a way that’s hard to find anymore. Mami (and yeah, that’s actually what everyone calls her) has this knack for making the place feel lived-in without being cluttered. The terrace alone is worth the stay – I spent way too many mornings up there with coffee, watching the neighborhood wake up below. You can hear the fountain in the piazza doing its thing, and there’s something about those early Roman mornings when the light hits just right… well, you get it. The apartment itself has that perfect balance of old Roman character – thick walls, high ceilings, the works – but with everything actually functioning properly. The shower has decent pressure (trust me, this matters in Rome), and the kitchen’s got real equipment if you want to hit the Trastevere market and cook something up.

What really sells this place, though, is the location without feeling like you’re in a tourist trap. Sure, you’re walking distance to all the Trastevere spots everyone talks about – Da Enzo is maybe five minutes away, and you can stumble home from any of the wine bars on Via del Moro. But here’s the thing locals know: this particular corner of Trastevere still feels like a neighborhood. You’ll hear Italian conversations from the windows, not just English and tour groups. The 9.3 rating makes sense when you stay here – it’s one of those places that just works. Mami responds to messages quickly, check-in was smooth (she meets you personally, which is refreshing), and honestly, the whole experience feels more like borrowing a friend’s place than staying in a rental. The terrace gets afternoon sun if you’re into that, and evening light that makes everything look like a movie. Just don’t expect to find parking right outside – this is central Rome, after all. But the nearest tram stop is close enough, and really, once you’re settled in Trastevere, you’ll probably just walk everywhere anyway.

  We had a great time there. Great location and super close to a lot of life.
  
  What could be improved: At no fault of the host but just FYI for others – our car service was not able to drive to the front door as access was restricted during the weekend. The closest they could get was a block away. And there isn't an elevator (which was noted). For most, this may not be an issue but we were traveling with elderly parents and this was a bit of a challenge for them (especially with luggage).

  What could be improved: Lack of artificial lighting in the evening… the apartment could do with better lighting… Trastevere evenings can get quite rowdy during the early hours of the morning… but it was expected.

  This apartment is great and suited our party of 6 perfectly. You couldn't get a better location. The beds were very comfy and we were supplied with plenty of towels. Regarding the previous reviews on noise we took ear plugs but didn't use them. Yes there was a little noise but not enough to stop any of us sleeping.

  Spacious apartment on the second floor with a large terrace. Great location in the heart of all the restaurants and bars.
  
  What could be improved: Be prepared for the stairs with your heavy luggage 😫 Small problems with the aircon units. Had to reset all the power in the apartment. One of the bedroom mattresses was too soft and "bouncy"

  It's right in the heart of Trastevere with loads of character, the highest ceilings I've ever seen, and good restaurants a stone's throw away.
  
  What could be improved: The stunning, ancient church opposite also has church bells which chime EVERY 15 MINUTES day and night. Bring ear plugs!
