Hotel Description
You know what’s funny about Rome? Everyone stays near the Colosseum or Spanish Steps, but some of the best experiences happen when you venture into actual neighborhoods where Romans live. That’s exactly what you get at Mami Guest House Rome on Via Gregorio VII – it’s tucked into Aurelio, which honestly feels more like a real slice of Roman life than the tourist circus downtown.
I’ll be straight with you – this isn’t some flashy boutique hotel with Instagram-worthy lobbies. It’s a genuine guest house that just happens to nail all the things that actually matter when you’re staying somewhere. The family running it treats you like, well, family, and they’ve got this way of making recommendations that feel personal rather than scripted. When they told me about the little osteria around the corner on Via Baldo degli Ubaldi, I almost didn’t go because it looked so unassuming from the outside. Best cacio e pepe I had in Rome, hands down. The rooms themselves are what you’d hope for – clean, comfortable, with that solid European simplicity that means you can actually get a good night’s sleep. And speaking of sleep, here’s something you don’t always think about until you’re lying awake at 2 AM: this neighborhood is genuinely quiet. Sure, you’ll hear the occasional Vespa puttering by, but none of that constant tourist chatter and late-night bar noise you get in Centro Storico.
The location thing is interesting because it’s not “convenient” in the way travel websites usually mean – you’re not stumbling distance from the Pantheon. But honestly? That’s kind of perfect. You’re a quick metro ride from everywhere you want to see (Ottaviano station is your friend), and when you come back in the evening, you’re not fighting crowds to get to your front door. Instead, you’re walking past the local bar where the same group of older Italian men seem to have permanent reserved seats for their evening aperitivo ritual. There’s something almost therapeutic about settling into a rhythm where you grab your morning cornetto from the pasticceria down the street, then head off to conquer the Forum or Vatican Museums, knowing you’ve got this peaceful home base waiting for you. The Vatican is actually closer than you’d think – about a 15-minute walk through tree-lined streets that feel worlds away from the chaos around St. Peter’s Square. I mean, you can practically see the dome from some of the upper floor windows. One small thing worth mentioning: parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving, but then again, if you’re driving in Rome, you’ve probably already made peace with that particular form of urban adventure. The 9.5 rating this place gets makes total sense once you’ve stayed here – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does really, really well.

Superb – Jacqueline from Brazil – 29 June 2025 (9/10)
Breakfast, bus stop nearby, silence, clean, perfect reception, easy free parking.
Brilliant accommodation – Jessica from United Kingdom – 24 June 2025 (10/10)
The property was in such a convenient location, less than 10 mins walk to the Vatican and around 7 min walk to San Pietro station which is so easy to travel from. The host Martina was so lovely and accommodating and the cleaner was so nice as well! Buffet breakfast was nice, and we liked that the place didn’t have so many guests as it was more homely. I would definitely recommend this accommodation if you’re looking for a reasonably priced place to stay with very good facilities and great hospitality

Location close to St.Peter Basilica, that could be seen from the balcony and we walked to Basilica. Near to train station, bus stop in front of the house, Very clean, beautifully furnished rooms. We loved our room with jacuzzi, it was great to relax there after long day. Breakfast was very good and very well served. We enjoyed our stay

There are so many positives! A little gem of a place.
The location is great- 20-25 minutes walk to St Peter’s Basilica and Vatican museums, bus stop just across the road 2 min walk away to go to Coty centre and historical Roman buildings. Nearby supermarket. There are laundry services nearby. Variety of food options at a short distance.
The place is kept amazingly clean with daily cleaning.
However the best thing about the place are the people running the guest house. Martina and her colleagues go out of the way to care for the guests. Always ready to help, answer questions and give good suggestions. The breakfast is really nice with a good variety for all tastes. We really loved our stay. Thank you.

Nice atmosphere, good breakfasts.
What could be improved: The internet speed was really slow, 0.1 Mbps… that's really not very useful.Room with an amazing view!!! – Loree from New Zealand – 23 May 2025 (10/10)
Amazing attention to detail with the room. I’m sure the other rooms will be just as amazing.
Loved the pink room as it was spacious, roomy and fresh.
Would definitely come back and stay again.
Martina was a great host and the breakfast selection is great.
