Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels in Rome, and honestly? Most of them in the Vatican area are either overpriced tourist traps or budget places that smell like old carpet. Maison Piazza Cavour is different – it’s one of those gems that makes you feel like you actually know something about the city.
The location is what got me first. You’re on Via Cicerone, which sounds fancy but it’s actually this quiet residential street where real Romans live. I mean, there’s a little bakery two doors down where the guy behind the counter doesn’t speak English and doesn’t care to – that’s how you know you’re in the right spot. It’s maybe a seven-minute walk to the Vatican Museums (I timed it because I’m obsessive like that), but here’s the thing everyone misses: you can walk there in the early morning without fighting through crowds of tour groups. The Prati neighborhood is sort of like Rome’s best-kept secret – locals shop here, eat here, but tourists usually just barrel through on their way to St. Peter’s.
The hotel itself feels more like staying at someone’s stylish apartment than a typical four-star place. The rooms are what I’d call “thoughtfully small” – not cramped, just efficient in that European way where everything has a purpose. The shower actually has decent water pressure (trust me, this matters in Rome), and the air conditioning works without sounding like a jet engine. What really impressed me was the staff – they’re not just friendly, they’re genuinely helpful. When I mentioned I wanted to find good carbonara, the guy at the front desk didn’t send me to some tourist place near the Pantheon. Instead, he wrote down the name of this tiny spot in Testaccio where the locals eat. That’s the kind of insider knowledge you can’t fake.
You know what else? The street is quiet at night. I’ve stayed near Termini where you hear sirens and scooters until 3 AM, but here you might catch the occasional conversation drifting up from the sidewalk – usually in Italian, which somehow makes it feel romantic instead of annoying. The building has that solid Roman feel, thick walls and high ceilings that keep things cool even in summer. There’s no pool or fancy spa, but honestly, who needs that when you’re a short walk from the Castel Sant’Angelo and those gorgeous bridges over the Tiber?
The breakfast is simple but good – proper espresso, fresh pastries, none of that sad continental buffet stuff. And here’s a practical tip: they have a small elevator, which might seem obvious but you’d be surprised how many Roman hotels make you haul your luggage up three flights of marble stairs. The whole experience just feels authentic without trying too hard, if that makes sense. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay because you don’t want to leave the neighborhood.

I enjoyed my stay at this quiet place. The hotel has a great location, everything is within walking distance. There are many cozy cafes and a supermarket in the immediate vicinity.
The description and the photos are true. The room is not big, but comfortable. There is a kettle and tea in the room. There is also a coffee maker in the hall. The hotel is located on the fifth floor of an apartment building, but this is no problem as there is an elevator available.
One thing we really appreciated was the convenient contactless check-in process. We arrived late and the hotel does not have a 24-hour front desk, so it was really important for us. I am especially thankful to Ilene for providing us with very clear instructions.

The location is very close to the center and also you have a bus station right in front of the building from where you can take a bus anywhere you want. The apartments are very clean and fozy. The staff even though they didn’t spoke english very good they tried their best to help us. And also the free coffee was a nice touch.

The location of the B&B is perfect, we were able to walk everywhere (10 minutes to the city center)! The accommodation was nice, exactly like described and our host Ilenia was great. Daily housekeeping and being able to leave the luggage after check-out were very convenient as well. Would recommend!
