Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Magia in Trastevere? It’s tucked away on this narrow cobblestone street – Via dei Salumi – that feels like Rome’s best-kept secret, even though it’s right in the heart of one of the city’s most beloved neighborhoods. I mean, you’re literally steps from the Tiber, but somehow the location manages to feel intimate rather than touristy. The building itself has that weathered Roman charm you can’t fake – thick stone walls that actually keep the summer heat out (trust me on this one, I was there in July).

The hotel’s got this wonderfully unpretentious vibe that matches Trastevere perfectly. It’s a solid 3-star place that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, which honestly feels refreshing after seeing so many hotels oversell themselves. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but the beds are actually good and the air conditioning works properly. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, despite being surrounded by some of Rome’s liveliest trattorias and bars. Those old walls I mentioned? They’re doing their job. The staff genuinely seems to care about helping you navigate the neighborhood, and they’ll steer you toward the local spots rather than the obvious tourist traps.

But here’s the real magic – and I think that’s intentional with the name – you’re positioned perfectly to experience Trastevere like a temporary local. Walk five minutes in any direction and you’ll hit places like Da Enzo al 29 (where Romans actually eat) or the weekend market at Piazza di San Cosimato. The hotel sits just far enough from the main drag of Viale di Trastevere to avoid the cruise ship crowds, but close enough that you can easily catch trams or buses to the rest of Rome. And honestly, after spending your days battling the masses at the Colosseum or Vatican, coming back to this quieter corner feels like a small daily victory. The area comes alive at night in the best way – you’ll fall asleep to the distant sounds of conversation and laughter from the piazzas, not traffic or sirens. It’s Rome at its most romantic and lived-in, which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to understand why people fall in love with this city in the first place.

  • Great location for a short stay in Rome – Dustin from United States – 31 July 2023 (8/10)

Great location, great air conditioning, and the host set up transfers for us.

What could be improved: It was missing some basics like paper towel and soap in the bathrooms. Also the shower heads didn’t work well so we had to use the sprayer. The internet for the back rooms wasn’t functioning.

The apartment it’s perfect for a big group of friends/family. Location is really good!! I would definitely recommend it.

What could be improved: I would expect the apartment to be equipped with everything that’s needed for a big group. Not enough toilet paper, kitchen utensils, etc.

  • Perfect location in the heart of Trastevere with easy access to all the sites, great food, and wonderful night life! – Sharp from United States – 13 June 2025 (9/10)

Excellent location! Very timely staff! Extremely comfortable beds! Very cold A/C in the summer! Great shower with very hot water even after several showers.

What could be improved: Parking was difficult for us due to a large vehicle. There is a garage nearby but we weren’t able to access it.

Quiet area, not too far from the city attractions. Easy to check in!

What could be improved: Lack of parking space, there is a garage nearby, but reservation to a spot ahead of time. One inner window couldn't be closed. Bready to climb a couple of floors since an elevator is not available.

  • Very good – Aysha from United Kingdom – 18 September 2024 (8/10)

The apartment is nice and clean, big rooms, good for 2 families. We were also friends and we were comfortable,

What could be improved: Only WiFi was not coming in the back side bedroom so the seat is leaving room and use
