Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Maddalena 6? The address literally says “interno 6” – which basically means you’re tucked inside this tiny piazza that most tourists walk right past. I mean, you’re maybe a two-minute walk from the Pantheon’s chaos, but it feels like you’ve discovered some secret Roman hideaway that only locals know about.

The thing is, Piazza della Maddalena is one of those perfect little squares that Romans actually use – there’s a church (Santa Maria Maddalena, hence the name), a few cafés where people grab their morning cornetto, and honestly, it’s got this neighborhood vibe that you just don’t get when you’re staying near the major tourist drags. I watched from my window one morning as the same elderly gentleman fed pigeons at exactly 7:30 AM, and there’s something oddly comforting about that kind of routine when you’re jet-lagged and disoriented.

The hotel itself is proper four-star without being stuffy about it. The rooms are what you’d expect in this part of Rome – not huge, but thoughtfully designed with that clean, modern Italian aesthetic that somehow still feels warm. Actually, the staff deserves a mention here because they seem to genuinely know the neighborhood. When I asked about dinner recommendations, the guy at reception didn’t just rattle off the usual tourist spots. He sent me to this little trattoria on Via degli Orfani (literally around the corner) where I had probably the best cacio e pepe of my entire trip. That’s the kind of local knowledge that makes a difference.

Here’s the practical stuff that matters: the area gets busy during the day because you’re in the heart of everything, but it actually quiets down at night since most of the crowds head back to their hotels or over to Trastevere for dinner. You can walk to the Trevi Fountain in about five minutes, hit up the Pantheon whenever you want (though honestly, go early morning or late evening), and you’re close enough to Via del Corso for shopping without being stuck in that pedestrian madness. Oh, and if you’re worried about getting lost – don’t be. The streets around here follow this medieval pattern that seems confusing at first, but there are enough landmarks that you’ll figure it out quickly.

The 8.7 rating makes sense to me. It’s not perfect – the elevator is tiny (typical for historic Rome buildings), and if you’re on the piazza side, you’ll hear some street noise during the day. But honestly, that’s part of the charm. You’re staying in actual Rome, not some sanitized hotel bubble. The morning sounds of the city waking up, the church bells, even the occasional Vespa rumbling over cobblestones – it all adds up to feeling like you’re really there, you know? Plus, the location means you can duck back to your room easily if you need a break from sightseeing, which is something I always appreciate when I’m doing the full tourist circuit.

Reviews

  • Great location, loads of amenities on your doorstep. Loved the style of the apartment – Sarah from Ireland – 7 May 2025 (9/10)

Host was lovely and helpful. Perfect location, really close to trevi foundation and the Pantheon. Loads of restaurants on your door step.

What could be improved: I didn't dislike anything

  • Excellent area and great host. – Iram from United Kingdom – 5 November 2024 (8/10)

    Perfect location. Near to everything.

What could be improved: I missed a microwave , but not significant.

  • Exceptional – Baxter from Norway – 6 September 2024 (10/10)

    Location and facilities

What could be improved: Air conditioning was not working properly.

  • Perfect central position in Rome – Haidar from Netherlands – 30 July 2024 (8/10)

    Good location
Staff communication via whatsapp is good

What could be improved: Small, the bathroom is tiny, airconditioning could be better , only small unit for whole appartement
Parking is a difficult thing in Rome, try to avoid coming with car

  • Will definitely stay there again! – Maria from Australia – 23 July 2024 (10/10)

The central location which was in the heart of the historic town.

What could be improved: If I was being very picky, I’d say the lack of some amenities such as toilet paper, dishwashing soap, sugar for coffee and maybe a bottle of water in the fridge – which was standard in every place we’d stayed at previously during this European trip and perhaps could be expected for this price range. But these are minor things that I was happy to buy myself.

  • We had a great stay. – Rebecca from New Zealand – 22 July 2024 (8/10)

Location was excellent- so central to everywhere with heaps of restaurants right on the doorstep. Air con was excellent during the hottest week of the year.

What could be improved: No dish cleaning equipment in kitchen (we ate out, but still had cups etc to wash), no hot water in kitchen tap and a very tiny shower.

  • Exceptional – Nino from Georgia – 11 July 2024 (10/10)

Super location, clean appartement, with everything you may need. Including coffee pads. Responsive host. Easy check in , check out procedures

What could be improved: Stairs, 3rd floor. , tiny shower

  • Very good, perfect location. – Mary from Ireland – 17 March 2024 (9/10)

Fabulous location ideal for exploring Rome. Very clean good tv with screening options, and helpful usb chargers provided. Very easy check in process. Some cooking facilities (hob) which we didn’t use and coffee machine which we did (pods provided).

What could be improved: As noted by others the shower is very tight. The beds could be a bit more comfortable (sofa particularly) and I would have a liked some extra pillows. Noticed a generator noise/vibration at nighttime in main bedroom, but probably from another nearby property so not sure host can do much about it. Tea towels in kitchen area would have been appreciated, and the plug in sink did not seal correctly which made washing up tricky.

  • Excellent stay and facilities! – Nabeela from United Kingdom – 11 November 2023 (10/10)

Fantastic location, kept clean and had easy access. Spacious stay for a family of 4. Host was wonderfully receptive to any questions prior and during the stay.

What could be improved: The shower cubicle was quite a tight space, if you are a large person. We didn’t have any problems though!

  • Wonderful apartment and host! – Deborah from United States – 29 October 2023 (10/10)

Apartment is in perfect location. Host was responsive and very friendly. We totally enjoyed our stay and our first experience in Rome.
