Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about LUDUS ROOMS? I was expecting another generic boutique place, but walking into this spot on Via di San Giovanni in Laterano actually felt like discovering someone’s well-curated secret. The building itself has that solid Roman character – you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Basilica of San Giovanni, which honestly most tourists rush past on their way to the Colosseum, but locals know it’s just as stunning without the crowds.
The rooms here are what I’d call thoughtfully modern – they’ve clearly put effort into the details without going overboard with the design-magazine aesthetic. The beds are seriously comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms have that satisfying weight to the fixtures that makes you feel like everything’s built to last. What really impressed me was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re right in Monti. I mean, this neighborhood can get lively – especially around the wine bars on Via del Boschetto – but somehow the rooms block out most of the street noise. The air conditioning actually works properly too, which… well, if you’ve stayed in Rome in July, you’ll appreciate that detail.
But here’s the thing that really sets this place apart – the location is kind of perfect for people who want to feel like they’re living in Rome rather than just visiting it. You’re tucked into this residential corner of Monti where you’ll see the same baker every morning and the same nonna walking her tiny dog every evening. The metro stop at San Giovanni is literally around the corner, so you can get anywhere in the city without dealing with the chaos around Termini. Plus, there’s this little alimentari across the street where you can grab proper prosciutto and mozzarella di bufala for breakfast – way better than hotel breakfast buffets, honestly. The staff seems to get this too; they’re not pushing tourist trap recommendations but actually know which trattoria serves the best carbonara in the neighborhood (spoiler: it’s not the one with English menus). I stayed here during shoulder season and it felt like I’d found this perfect balance between authentic Roman life and comfortable accommodation – which, let’s be honest, is exactly what you want when you’re trying to fall in love with a city rather than just check monuments off a list.

I loved how close it is to the colosseum, close to the supermarket and restaurants. I also loved the small balcony outside where i had my breakfast and the fact that i had an easy access to the kitchen.
Great stay – Briony_b from Australia – 17 June 2025 (10/10)
Perfect location near the colosseum and very comfortable room. Staff were super friendly. Kept up to date via Whatsapp even when I had a mix up over my arrival time, they went above and beyond to help out. Very safe part of Rome to walk around and close to a lot of good restaurants. Will definitely return.
I saw some comments about noise – I didn't have an issue, the only time I heard anything was one morning when people were either checking in or out so were in the corridor, but no other noise, the double glass doors kept everything out, even when there was a street party right outsideLocation – Manuel from United States – 16 June 2025 (10/10)
