Hotel Description
L’obelisque maison de luxe sits on Via Gregoriana, which honestly feels like one of those Roman streets you’d stumble upon by accident and immediately want to tell everyone about – except you kind of don’t want to because it’s so perfectly tucked away. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the Spanish Steps, but here’s the thing: you’re on the quiet side of all that tourist chaos. I mean, you can pop over to see the Steps or hit Via del Corso for shopping, but when you duck back onto Via Gregoriana, it’s like stepping into a different world. The street itself is narrow and cobbled (pack comfortable shoes, trust me), and there’s something almost secretive about how this place announces itself.
The hotel itself – well, it’s one of those converted historic buildings that Rome does so well, where you can feel the age in the walls but everything’s been updated without losing that old-world soul. The rooms actually feel like you’re staying in an elegant Roman apartment rather than a typical hotel box, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re trying to pretend you live in Rome for a few days. The staff knows the neighborhood inside and out, and they’ll point you toward the little wine bar around the corner that locals actually go to, not the tourist traps. What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night – you’d think being so close to the Spanish Steps would mean noise, but Via Gregoriana settles into this peaceful hush after dark. The 8.7 rating makes sense because it’s not trying to be flashy or over-the-top luxurious, but rather that kind of understated elegance that feels more authentic to Rome itself.
You know what really sells this place for me? It’s positioned perfectly for those early morning walks when Rome belongs to the street sweepers and coffee bar owners getting ready for the day. Step out of L’obelisque around 7 AM and you can have the Spanish Steps practically to yourself, then grab a proper espresso (none of that cappuccino-after-10-AM tourist business) at one of the nearby bars before the crowds arrive. The Spagna metro stop is right there when you need it, but honestly, you’ll probably find yourself walking everywhere because this part of Rome is so ridiculously walkable. It’s the kind of place where you start to develop little routines – morning coffee here, afternoon aperitivo there – and suddenly you feel less like a tourist and more like someone who just happens to live in the most beautiful city in the world.

Reviews
3 minute walk to Spanish Steps – Beata from Australia – 28 June 2025 (8/10)
The property was within walking distance to most areas and was very clean, with a daily housekeeping service. The continental breakfast was basic but nice enough. Most of the staff were lovely with the exception of one who seemed bothered by having to attend to guests. He made us seem uncomfortable to ask questions or ask for help.
What could be improved: The bed was hard so if you prefer a softer bed, not the place for you.
We had a room facing the street, there is a Jazz bar across the road and it was rather noisy late into the night.Exceptional – Ruth from United States – 25 May 2025 (10/10)
Location was great. Staff was friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: The step down into the room was awkward but we got used to it. The small light helped. We would have liked luggage storage,Superb – Michaela from Czech Republic – 11 May 2025 (9/10)
Convenient location, cosy small accommodation, nice staff, good breakfast (coffee and croissants!), daily room service. The room is small but comfortable.
What could be improved: A little bit noisy when you have opened window but you are the city centre and if you close the window, it´s ok.Nice, comfortable little hotel, great location. – Annamária from Hungary – 25 March 2025 (9/10)
Good breakfast, nice, smiling staff. The hotel is in a great location.
What could be improved: The walls between the rooms are a bit thin. But it's not terrible.Exceptional – Kristina from Montenegro – 24 March 2025 (10/10)
Everything! Four of us stayed in the apartement which is so comfortable, clean. Beds are so cosy, everything smell so nice. Kitchen well equiped. Terace is so romantic. Defenetely come back again.
Exceptional – Andrea from Slovakia – 7 March 2025 (10/10)
Everything 🙂
What could be improved: Missed the vegetables on the breakfast :).Best choice if you are in Rome – Éva from Hungary – 13 February 2025 (10/10)
Rome is my favorite city, I've been here for the third time. This accommodation was the most amazing so far, beyond all expectations.
The street above the Spanish Steps, a few steps away.
The old town of Rome is small, everything is within walking distance from the hotel.
The receptionist (young, curly-haired guy) was very nice and helpful, I send him my regards from here. :o)
The room is well equipped, very clean. The hotel is sophisticated, beautiful, with a good atmosphere.
I can only recommend it. Hope, I will return.
What could be improved: The breakfast selection was quite poor (although it might just be because of the January pre-season), there were no vegetables at all.Very good – Konstantinos from Greece – 20 January 2025 (8/10)
What could be improved: Hard sleeping pad
Exceptional – Saad from Saudi Arabia – 18 December 2024 (10/10)
Amazing Place, thank you to the host.
Very good – Carla from Argentina – 9 December 2024 (8/10)
Room
What could be improved: Bathroom shower door does not work properly
