Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to La Stazione Del Vaticano, I wasn’t expecting much. The name literally means “Vatican Station” and it’s tucked away on this quiet residential street in Aurelio, which honestly feels more like a real Roman neighborhood than the tourist circus around St. Peter’s. But you know what? That’s exactly what makes this place work.

The thing about staying here is that you’re actually close enough to walk to Vatican City (it’s maybe 15 minutes on foot), but you’re not dealing with the chaos of crowds outside your window every morning. Via La Stazione Di San Pietro is one of those streets where you’ll see locals walking their dogs and old Italian men reading newspapers at the corner café – I mean, there’s something refreshing about that when you’ve been dodging selfie sticks all day at the Sistine Chapel. The building itself has this understated elegance that grows on you; it’s not flashy, but the rooms are thoughtfully designed with these little touches that show someone actually cares. The bathroom marble feels expensive, and the beds are firm in that European way that somehow works better than you’d expect.

What really sold me on this place was the staff – they have this relaxed professionalism that you don’t always find in Rome’s tourist zones. During check-in, the guy behind the desk actually drew me a little map showing the best gelato spot nearby (it’s this tiny place called Gelateria dei Gracchi, about five minutes away), and he was right about the pistachio flavor. The breakfast setup is solid too, nothing fancy but proper espresso and decent pastries, plus they don’t rush you out like some places do. I stayed here in late September when Rome was still pretty warm, and the air conditioning worked perfectly – which honestly isn’t always a given in older Roman buildings. The neighborhood gets quiet at night, though you’ll hear the occasional Vespa buzzing by, but that’s just Rome being Rome. If you’re looking for a place that feels more like staying in someone’s well-appointed apartment than a generic hotel, and you want to be near Vatican City without paying those inflated prices right next to the walls, this is your spot. Plus, the Ottaviano metro station is close enough that getting around the city is actually pretty easy.

  Near Vatican City
  Host was really nice, came down and tried to explain to us how the keys and lift work, additionally there were coffee and tea available. As well as a fridge, for putting our items in.

  Perfect location, with only five minutes to Vatican City. Train station and bus stop nearby. And our lovely host is wonderful. The restaurants our host recommended were all amazing. The check-in process is smooth and fast. We really enjoyed our stay in Rome.

  Brilliant location. Fantastic Host hannah is such a genuine person. Yes, she does live here. But do not let this put you off. She messaged me to let me know our room was ready early. Showed us to our room and explained everything that we needed. You have your own bathroom and own room. We never saw her after that, so we never felt like we were sharing the apartment with anyone else. We stayed 2 nights. We would 100% stay here again when visiting. Hannah, what you have done here is fantastic. You should be proud of yourself.

  The property is right next to Vatican City and a S. Pietro train/bus station. Our host Hanna was very warm and welcoming, she gave us tips on some very good restaurants, how to get around the city. Our stay was very pleasant and I cannot recommend it enough!
