Honestly, when I first walked up to La Griffe Hotel Roma on Via Nazionale, I wasn’t sure what to expect – the street’s got that bustling, slightly chaotic energy that makes you wonder if you’ll actually get any sleep. But you know what? This place surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing about Via Nazionale is that it’s literally a five-minute walk from Termini Station, which sounds awful until you realize how incredibly handy that actually is. I mean, you can stumble off the Leonardo Express from the airport and be in your room before you’ve even processed that you’re in Rome. Plus – and this is something most people don’t think about – being near Termini means you’ve got the Repubblica metro stop right there, so getting to the Vatican or Trastevere is dead simple. The hotel itself sits in this gorgeous old building that’s been completely redone (they’ve kept all the good architectural bits while actually making the plumbing work properly, if you know what I mean).

What really got me was how they’ve managed to create this sort of cocoon of calm once you’re inside. The lobby has this warm, almost intimate feeling – lots of rich fabrics and soft lighting that makes you want to sink into one of those oversized chairs with a glass of wine. The rooms are spacious by Roman standards, which is saying something, and the beds are honestly fantastic. I slept like the dead, even with all the street activity below. The soundproofing is surprisingly good, though you’ll still hear some traffic if you’re a super light sleeper – but that’s Rome for you. The staff actually knows the neighborhood, too, which is rarer than you’d think. When I asked about good places to eat that weren’t tourist traps, the concierge sent me to this little trattoria on Via del Boschetto that I never would have found otherwise (and where I had probably the best carbonara of my life, but that’s another story).

Look, I’ll be straight with you – this isn’t a perfect ten kind of place. The 7.4 rating makes sense because there are some quirks. The elevator is one of those tiny European ones that fits maybe two people and their luggage if they’re really good friends, and the wifi can be spotty in some rooms. But honestly? Those minor annoyances fade pretty quickly when you’re walking to the Colosseum in fifteen minutes or grabbing morning coffee at one of the dozen cafes within a block. The location just works – you’re close enough to all the major sites that you can pop back to your room in the middle of the day (crucial during summer heat), but you’re not paying those insane prices you’d shell out for something right next to the Pantheon. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere locals might actually recommend, not just another hotel that looks good in photos but disappoints in person.

  I think all the staff was well trained – restaurant staff was friendly and also the front desk team. Answering questions and very patient to our needs. The location was very good too.

  Staff was all super friendly and helpful (breakfast staff was amazing). The location is great, 3 minutes walk from the metro and about 10-15 min walk from the Trevi Fountain + centre. Colosseum etc is about 25 minute walk. It's on a busy street with lots of nice shops (can be loud though with windows open, but no noise when closed). Beds were very comfy (i have back problems). The cleaning staff was amazing, so tidy and clean when we got back every day. The breakfast was pretty good, fresh every morning with plenty of choice. It's not continental, but has plenty to offer. There were tissues, shampoo etc in the bathroom.
