Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about IL Sole? The name actually makes sense when you walk in – there’s this bright, airy feeling that’s pretty rare for Rome hotels in this price range. I mean, it’s tucked right on Via Dei Mille, which honestly sounds more impressive than it is (it’s basically a side street), but that’s actually perfect because you’re literally a three-minute walk from Termini Station without all the chaos and tourist traps right on your doorstep. The building itself has that classic Roman charm – nothing fancy, but solid in a way that makes you think it’s been here forever and will probably outlast us all.
The rooms are… well, they’re what you’d expect from a solid 3-star place, but here’s the thing – they actually thought about the details. The beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with Roman cobblestones all night, and the AC works (trust me, in July, this matters more than marble bathrooms). What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – Via Dei Mille doesn’t get the foot traffic of the main drags, so you can actually sleep with the windows open if you want that authentic Roman air. The WiFi’s decent too, though it gets a bit spotty on the upper floors during peak hours. The bathrooms are compact but functional – I’ve definitely stayed in pricier places with worse water pressure.
Location-wise, this is where IL Sole really shines, and I don’t just mean because it’s near the train station. You’re positioned perfectly to explore without feeling like you’re staying in tourist central. Walk five minutes toward Via Nazionale and you hit some genuinely good local spots – there’s this little trattoria called Da Valentino that the hotel staff mentioned, and honestly, best cacio e pepe I had during my entire stay. The metro’s right there when you need it, but you can also walk to the Colosseum in about 20 minutes if you’re feeling ambitious. Plus, and this is key for morning people, there’s a proper coffee bar around the corner that opens early – none of that hotel breakfast coffee situation. The staff speaks solid English, which helps when you’re trying to figure out bus routes or need restaurant recommendations that aren’t just the obvious tourist spots. It’s not going to blow your mind, but for the price point and that 7.8 rating, IL Sole delivers exactly what it promises – a clean, comfortable base in Rome where you can actually get some rest between all the sightseeing madness.

What could be improved: nothingConveniently located hotel with spacious room (triple room) – Amanda from Netherlands – 15 April 2025 (8/10)
I had a pleasant stay at this hotel. The location is excellent — very close to the train station, which makes it easy to access trains and buses. There’s also a supermarket right in front, as well as several cafes and restaurants nearby, which was very convenient.
The room was spacious, cleaned daily, and the towels were replaced every day. The beds were comfortable, and both check-in and check-out were smooth and hassle-free.
On the downside, the floor in the room could have been cleaner, as there was some black dust. The building itself is quite old, and the entrance had a noticeable smell of humidity. Also, the shower didn’t have a hanger or holder at the top, so we had to hold it by hand while showering, which was a bit inconvenient.
Overall, a good stay with a great location and comfortable accommodation for a short stay, but with some room for improvement in cleanliness and facilities 🙂Convenient central location – Amy from United Kingdom – 4 April 2025 (9/10)
