Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be straight with you about the Ibis Roma Fiera – it’s one of those places that grows on you once you figure out what it’s actually good for. When I first pulled up to Via Arturo Mercanti, honestly, I was wondering if I’d made a mistake. The Magliana Vecchia area isn’t exactly postcard Rome, you know? It’s more like… well, it’s where actual Romans live and work, which turned out to be kind of refreshing after dealing with tourist crowds all day.

The thing is, this hotel actually makes perfect sense once you realize it’s designed for people who need to be near Fiera di Roma – the big convention center is literally a few minutes away, and if you’re here for business, you’ll appreciate not having to navigate Rome’s insane traffic every morning. But here’s what surprised me: even if you’re just a regular tourist trying to save some euros, the location works better than you’d think. The Magliana train station is close enough that you can get into central Rome without too much hassle, and honestly, coming back to this quieter neighborhood at night felt like a relief. No crowds, no street vendors chasing you down – just normal residential streets where you can actually hear yourself think.

The rooms themselves are classic Ibis, which means they’re small but everything works. I mean, the shower had proper water pressure (not always a given in Rome, trust me), the air conditioning kept up with the summer heat, and the bed was actually comfortable. Nothing fancy, but clean and functional – sort of like a well-designed studio apartment. The breakfast was decent enough, though I’d recommend wandering down to the local bar for coffee if you want the real Italian experience. There’s this little place about two blocks away where the locals grab their morning cornetto, and the owner started recognizing me by day three. That’s the kind of thing you miss when you’re staying in the tourist zones.

What really sold me on this place was the parking situation – and I know that sounds boring, but if you’ve ever tried to park in Rome, you’ll understand why I’m mentioning it. They’ve got a garage, it’s reasonably priced, and you don’t have to worry about your rental car getting dinged or towed. Plus, the front desk staff were genuinely helpful, not just going through the motions. When I needed directions to a specific address in Trastevere, the evening clerk actually pulled out a map and showed me the best route to avoid traffic.

The 7.6 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be a luxury experience, but it delivers on what it promises. If you’re the type of traveler who needs to be within walking distance of the Colosseum, this isn’t your place. But if you want a solid base that’s affordable, practical, and gives you a peek at Rome beyond the tourist bubble, the Ibis Roma Fiera hits that sweet spot. Just don’t expect Instagram-worthy views from your window – you’re trading that for a good night’s sleep and money left over for better dinners.

To far from the centar, everything else was great.

  • Superb – Mufty from United Kingdom – 4 May 2025 (9/10)

All the staff was very nice and cooperative.

What could be improved: Nothing apart from the fact that it was a bit away from the city centre.

  • Last night's reservation before flying out – Mike from Canada – 21 April 2025 (7/10)

Breakfast was good. Staff kept the place immaculate and sterile.

What could be improved: Location wasn't great. Very dirty at the back of the hotel, garbage everywhere. Not a great selection of restaurants close by for evening meal.

  • Very good location for visiting Roma with plane from Fiumicino – Luk from Belgium – 17 April 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: Dangerous road for going by feet to the train station. It's safest to take a bus from 1 of three lines, they are passing very frequently in front of the hotel…

  • Very good – Maria from United States – 17 October 2024 (8/10)

We liked that the Reception Desk Staff were very friendly. The room was very clean, especially the bathroom. The property was close enoug to public transportation, too. It was fairly close to the airport which made it a convenient choice as well. The room was small, but qmwe've stayed in other IBIS hotels and the Rooms tend to be small, but sufficient.

What could be improved: It would have been better if Rooms had a coffee pot with coffee sachets, and terrific if it had a microwave!

  • If a chance I will book again – Jainu from India – 8 October 2024 (9/10)

    Staff members were very supportive
