Hotel Description

You know what really struck me about Hotel XX Settembre? The name alone tells you everything – it’s named after the date Rome became part of unified Italy, which honestly feels pretty fitting for a place that’s managed to blend old Roman character with the practical needs of modern travelers. I stumbled across this gem while looking for somewhere decent near Termini Station that wouldn’t break the bank, and I’m actually glad I ended up here instead of one of those sterile chain places.

The location on Via del Macao is kind of perfect if you think about it – you’re literally a five-minute walk from the chaos of Central Station (which, let’s be honest, is both a blessing and necessary evil when you’re hauling luggage around Rome), but the street itself is surprisingly quiet. I mean, you’ll still hear the occasional rumble of trains if you’re a light sleeper, but it’s nothing like the constant honking you get closer to the main drag. The building has that classic Roman apartment feel – thick walls, high ceilings, and those shutters that actually work to keep the summer heat out. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that overly formal hotel theater you sometimes get.

What really won me over was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the neighborhood. When I asked about good places to eat that weren’t total tourist traps, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a generic list – he told me about this little trattoria two blocks down where the locals actually go, and mentioned that the morning market on Via Principe Amedeo has the best coffee if you’re willing to stand at the bar like a proper Roman. The rooms themselves are exactly what you’d expect from a solid 3-star – clean, comfortable beds, decent Wi-Fi, and bathrooms that have clearly been updated sometime this century. Nothing fancy, but honestly, who spends time in their hotel room when you’re in Rome anyway? The air conditioning actually works (crucial during those brutal July afternoons), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. I particularly appreciated that the windows opened properly – sounds minor, but after staying in places where you’re sealed in like a spaceship, it’s nice to get some actual Roman air flowing through. The 8.4 rating makes total sense to me; it’s the kind of place that does exactly what it promises without any pretense, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re more focused on exploring the Eternal City than lounging around your hotel.

Reviews

  • A truly memorable stay, made even better by Romana’s warm and helpful support throughout. – Bhagyashree from United Kingdom – 22 May 2025 (9/10)

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel—everything was smooth and comfortable from start to finish. A special thanks to Romana at the reception, who truly made our experience even better. She was incredibly helpful during check-in and kindly arranged for our luggage to be stored safely. Beyond that, she gave us some great suggestions for local attractions and things to do, which really helped us make the most of our trip. We’re so grateful for her warm assistance. Thanks again for making our stay so memorable!

  • Good for one night before leaving country – Barbara from Canada – 31 May 2025 (7/10)

    Location to train station

What could be improved: Very tiny room with a window very high up and very little light. Was like a dark cell.

  • Exceptional – Zana from Kosovo – 28 April 2025 (10/10)

The location was really nice, quiet and the rooms were clean. The staff was the best one I have ever seen.

  • Passable – Maria from Belgium – 2 June 2025 (5/10)

It is at walking distance to the train station

What could be improved: Extremely small room, barely have the place to move or hang clothes/ leave stuff around both in the room and in the bathroom. Room below the roof was too dark with only one light, I had to switch on my phone torch to actually have decent light.

  • Exceptional – Anonymous from Turkey – 10 June 2025 (10/10)

    Perfect reception employers

  • Very good – Petr from Czech Republic – 16 May 2025 (8/10)

Pokoj i umístění hotelu splnily naše očekávání 3***.

  • Buon punto di appoggio – Marco from Italy – 22 June 2025 (8/10)

Personale molto accogliente e disponibile

What could be improved: Camera singola molto piccola

  • Soggiorno con amici – Vincenzo from Italy – 3 June 2025 (8/10)

  • Very good – Romina from Italy – 26 May 2025 (8/10)

    Personale gentile e accogliente
Struttura pulita, servizi wifi, biancheria da bagno e da letto pulita

What could be improved: Bagno poco confortevole. Piccolo.

  • Superb – Adelon from France – 7 May 2025 (9/10)
