Hotel Villa Rosa Overview
You know what? Hotel Villa Rosa isn’t going to blow your mind, but it’s got this quiet charm that really grows on you. Tucked away on Via Giovanni Prati in Gianicolense, it’s honestly one of those places that feels more like staying at a well-kept Italian home than a typical tourist hotel. The neighborhood itself is pretty residential – you’ll hear church bells in the morning and see actual Romans going about their daily lives, which I mean, isn’t that what you want when you’re in Rome?
The thing about Villa Rosa is that it sits in this sweet spot between being accessible to the city center and feeling like you’ve escaped the tourist madness. Gianicolense is properly Roman – there’s this great little mercato about a ten-minute walk away where you can grab fresh bread and actually decent coffee for breakfast if you want to skip the hotel’s spread. And honestly, the tram connections are pretty solid once you figure them out. I actually found myself walking a lot more than I expected because the streets here are just… nicer somehow. Less crowded, more tree-lined, and you stumble across these tiny churches and piazzas that aren’t in any guidebook.
The hotel itself has that lived-in feel that three-star places in Rome either nail or completely miss – thankfully, Villa Rosa nails it. The rooms are clean and comfortable without being fancy, and there’s something endearing about the slightly mismatched furniture and the way the morning light filters through these old-school shutters. Staff-wise, they’re genuinely helpful rather than just polite, which makes a difference when you’re trying to figure out which bus actually goes to Trastevere (it’s the 44, by the way). The whole place has this relaxed energy – you know, not rushing you out at breakfast or hovering when you’re trying to plan your day. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in the area, but they’ll point you toward the spots that actually work, and the neighborhood’s quiet enough that you’re not dealing with scooters revving under your window all night. It’s the kind of place where you end up having those random conversations with other guests over coffee, and somehow everyone seems to discover the same little trattoria around the corner that serves the best cacio e pepe you’ve never heard of.

Reviews of Hotel Villa Rosa
Very good – Medley from United States – 3 June 2025 (8/10)
Beautiful yet simple. Fantastic breakfast
What could be improved: The shower wasn't hot enough, yet the faucet water was. ????Very good value for money – Rafael from Malta – 18 May 2025 (7/10)
All amenities promised within the room were delivered, breakfast was good, staff was very polite and helpful, both through email communication and vis-a-vis. Hotel remains open well beyond midnight.
What could be improved: Lift was super smallVery good – Ronaldus from Netherlands – 19 February 2025 (8/10)
The room was quiet. The staff was very friendly. The breakfast was good. And all that for such a low price.
The hotel is close to the Roma Trastevere station, and to bus and tram stops.Good – Gillian from United Kingdom – 4 February 2025 (7/10)
The cleanliness of our room, especially the bed and the bathroom.
Hot water at all times.
Near to the station.
What could be improved: The noise from the traffic.
It was very dated, the paint was falling off of the bathroom walls.
The noise from the room next door to us.Best budget friendly and clean hotel to stay – Kalayappan from Germany – 14 January 2025 (8/10)
Breakfast and location is the best. Room which we booked was smaller okay for short term usage. rest all is the top class for the hotel like service, safety we are the best.
What could be improved: nothing like thatOk but could been better – Evelise from Denmark – 5 January 2025 (8/10)
Great Breakfast.
Super comfortable beds
Friendly and helpful staff
What could be improved: The blankets, they need to change the blankets.
My daughters blanket was full of hair lines from a blond person who previously stayed there.
For the price that you pay.
It should be the minimum to at least have Duvets and clean blanketsVery good – Daniele from Italy – 2 December 2024 (8/10)
Breakfast is included with a cold buffet stocked with croissants/cakes/cereals, fresh made yoghurt (!), usual deal of sliced ham/cheese.
Comfortable and friendly. – Richard from United Kingdom – 25 November 2024 (8/10)
My Italian friend recommended the hotel , looking on TripAdvisor there were some negative comments.
But the hotel is fine… perfect location to Trastevere station , and buses ,easy walking to some nearby restaurants , bars and supermarkets.
I always like to book double rooms , and the size , comfort and bathroom were fine.
The staff friendly and helpful.
I don’t normally eat breakfast but there were plenty of pastries , cheese , ham , a coffee machine plus filter coffee.
I would definitely stay here again , and good free Wi-Fi.Great for a last minute booking on a tight budget. – Maisha from United States – 5 November 2024 (8/10)
Had to book a last minute stay and this hotel fit our needs perfectly. It is in a good location near transit and restaurants, plus we were able to walk to where we needed to be. The bed was comfortable, staff were pleasant, breakfast was simple but good.
What could be improved: I like the classic charm, but it could use some updates. Especially in the bathroom. But, everything was clean. Old, but clean.Nice place at good price and location; just wished that the AC worked reliably. – William from United States – 26 June 2024 (8/10)
Great location right by the train station and in between the coliseum and the Vatican.
It was nice that they allowed us to store our luggage there before check in.
Breakfast was nice in the morning, and the staff was very friendly.
What could be improved: The air conditioning did not work the second night we were there. The night manager gave us 2 fans, but the room stayed at 26C even with the window open with all of the street noise.
